How do you remove Maytag A207 lid?

How do you remove the lid??

It has the two balls holding the cover on, which seem to fit tightly. I'm trying to clean in behind the lid and around the lid switch, which is difficult with the lid in place.

I normally pull on one side of the lid, until it releases from the little ball. Make sure you watch where they drop.
To reinstall, I install a ball on one side, then wedge the other ball between the lid, and the top. Start hitting the corner of the lid with your hand, and it will move into place. It may take several tries, until you get the hang of it.

to remove: I wrap a washcloth around a screwdriver, place under one corner and pry up, pops out in an instant, just keep track of where they go......a little vaseline helps them pop back into place, easier than you think...

good ideas, and also, the "Official Service Manual" says to soak the balls in hot water for 5 minutes before re-installing, most likely makes them just a tiny squishy, just enough for easier insertion

Thanks for the tips! Worked great.

What I did was open the lid a little, put a cloth over one ball (the right-side, since that's where I was pulling), pulled the right-side of the lid until it popped out. The balls safely drop into the washer rather than flying about.

Putting it back was similar. I popped the left ball and lid into place, placed the right-ball into the hole on the body and just leaned into the lid (edge-wise) until the corner popped into place. Piece of cake, and no banging required!

I don't know how much it helped, but I did let the balls sit in warm water while cleaning behind the lid.

I always splice the lid switch wires so it will work w/out having to finagle the lid switch.
