The same way you would ship anything else.....

.... pack it carefully in a large enough box to prevent damage, then take it to the U.S.P.O., UPS or FedEd and send it on it's merry way!

Careful with UPS

I have sent stuff to Canadian friends before and every single, solitary time, it was FUBAR.
UPS in Canada have their heads up their ass so far, they'll never see the sun again was the way one guy put it.

There is a major problem with value declaration as well, nobody in the US well tell you this or even admit to it, but if you declare the value over $20 (at least it was $20 the last time), they have to pay a penalty import fee of something like 9000%.

In short, shipping to Canada from the US is something you both have to coordinate very very carefully or they will end up getting screwed and having to pay for it.

The boxes also arrived looking like gorillas had used them for stomping practice, so best wrap as if it were finest crystal - if the goons can break it, they will.

Ship it parcel post with the post office, no hassles and usually there is no duty on this end PLUS the post office does not charge a "brokerage" fee like UPS does on every shipment to Canada. I've never had a problem that way and had plenty of stuff shipped from the US.
When you fill in the form ENSURE YOU WRITE THESE WORDS in the description of what's in the box

USED vacuuum cleaner
MADE IN THE USA

Ups is NOT the way to Ship anything anymore.

Almost everything we receive that has been shipped ups is damaged box broken and items missing.. Dont know what has happened to the once best shippers but they are now the WORST at least in this area. We Receive on the avg. of 20 differents a week of linens and scrubs and have a LOT of dealings with shiping co. Fed ex is so far the best.

Hear Hear

I echo sudman's sentiments. UPS costs more, has spottier delivery targets and most often if something is damaged in shipment is by UPS

I recently had a Electrolux Rennie vacuum shipped from US to Canada. The shipper used FedEx. The vacuum arrived not damaged and Canadian Customs opened it. YES - declare it less then $20..save on duty and other fees.

Today, my vacuum hose arrived - it took only 10 days! The shipper used US Express...no duties!!
