How Hard Is My Water (US Only)

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Interesting stuff and not always what I would have expected. CaCO2 clogs faucets and curdles when boiled here but the map says the east is worse. No wonder Culligan is still in business despite charging 2-4 times for their systems what you can find them for elsewhere.

Soft Water?

The map showed this area to have very soft water? I dont think so. My well water is so hard it corodes anything metal and leaves stains on all the fixtures. I have to use a water softner with the iron remover salt and then tap water tastes like its from the ocean. There is so much granite in the earth here that leaches everything from iron down to radon into the soil. Some neighbors have good well water, but I must be on a bad vein. I have been toying with the idea of just pumping it from the lake in front of my house, which is very soft.

Interesting to see the different hardness levels across the USA.

I wonder about the data impact if your water source is not from the area you live. If we are pulling water out of the ground where we live I think the map is more helpful, but if we are receiving water from a source that originates several states away and must float or be pumped to us, should we be looking at the water source point  rather than where we live?  I dunno.

Hmmm

That map makes Lexington-Fayette water look moderately hard I suppose, which it is. I do not know anyone personally that has a water softener here; though I'm sure there are people who have them. I don't have one. I do know if I use a humidifier it clogs and faucets collect minerals after a while and there is never a single SUD or bubble in the wash.
