Hi folks. Moms got a KitchenAid, KUDJ23HY2, serial FC3102023. Any ideas how old? I'm going to order a replacement upper spray arm water delivery tube, since its rotted out. It still works well, albeit a little noisy. The only real issue is that the racks are starting to rust. Repairclinic wants $99 for the lower and $197 for the upper - not likely that we'd put soo much into the machine since she thinks it looks dated and wants something new and sleek, and maybe a bit less noisy.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Your mom's machine is from the early 23 series, 1993-1995. You can usually find decent racks on ebay. If the racks aren't too rusty, you can repair them with paint-on vinyl touch-up and plastic caps that push down over the rack prongs (available at any appliance parts store).

I would consider keeping this machine as long as possible. It is likely that any machine you replace this KA with will not last as as many years as the KA still has in it.

Glenn, the KUDJ23 looked similar to the Hobart KDC21A and later KUDC21, and KUDI22--the same control panel design, a timer knob on the left, and Pots/Pans, Normal, Light/China, Rinse/Hold and Energy Saver Dry buttons on the right. The only real difference betweeen the KUDI22 and KUDJ23 was a redesigned pump loosely based on the WP PowerClean, with a much larger soil collection chamber.

Hows thems?

There ya go. Nice to know I posted in the right section! :-) Kinda figured about that old anyway.

Am I correct in guessing that just about any ol' KA rack that looks abought right should fit and work? I'll measure it. Upon more complete investigation, I think we need just a bottom rack - and I think the exisiting one is too far gone for a repair.

While ~she~ might be interested in something shiny and Bosch, I have no intention of letting this machine (which has never had any service at all) fall by the wayside, rusty racks notwithstanding. After all, i'll need a good DW someday. :-)

Thanks folks!

Mom knows KitchenAid quality and......

A good Rowenta iron....
I consider them top of the line in irons.
Great heat and plenty of steam.
Takes the effort and drudgery out of ironing.
Now do I sound like a product host on QVC?

Rusty Racks

Kitchenaid Dishwashers are on Craigslist.org all the time for free and under 25.00. Twice, I have purchased the machine and trashed it to get replacements racks for friends.
