Hello good people of Automatic Washer.org! First time I'm posting here and this seems like a really cool site (love the 50's style theme!). Anyways, I have a Maytag A608 washer (my wife and I's first major appliance since we got married over a year ago) which we love. But, since it's old it's got some issues (off balance, one of the water tubes is leaking, etc) and I need to open the washer up and operate. But, for the life of me I can't figure out how the heck to open it!

I've attached the first page of the manual to help you see what the model looks like. I've worked hard trying to open it and I give up. Time to throw it to the experts here. Also, a side question. Does anyone haave any extra info on this model? Like when it was manufactured or some cool ads I can show my wife? Thanks in advance everyone!

The Front Panel Comes Off

Waaaay down at the bottom of the front cabinet panel on the left and right there are two screws that are aimed nearly downward.  With a fairly short screwdriver, remove them and lift the panel outward (toward you) and upward.  You may have to do this by feel unless you want to tilt the machine back to see what you're doing.

Hey up there in Willits! I'm an hour away in Cobb and could make a house call if needed. Maytags aren't my speciality but I've dabbled around with them here and there. These machines are definitely worth saving -- they'll run forever! Hope it all works out and post pics when you can.

Hey washerlover! Thanks for the offer for coming over. I got it figured out thanks to all the nice poeple here. Found the leak (water inlet valve) and already ordered the parts. I'll be sure to message you if I can't figure something out and need an expert ;)
