How to open the top JCP68V

We purchased a 1970s (‘77?) GE JCP68V for our basement kitchen. We’d like to take the top off the range to do a thorough cleaning, but it doesn’t just pop up like newer units. Is there an easy way to open the top of this range? Thanks for any help provided!

This sounds like it's still an old Hotpoint design. CAn you post a picture?

If I remember correctly, this is a 40" range model. This particular cabinet style was first introduced as a 1957 model, and manufactured until the early 80's. To the best of my knowledge, removing the top requires nearly complete disassembly of the appliance. Cleaning was intended to be done by removing the trim rings and drip pans.

Thank you for the help, we always know where to go when we need help on our old appliances. I had a feeling that it didn’t come off, fortunately, it was in very good condition and it cleaned up well even without removing the top.

Jackie, after I"d made the above-thread post, I remembered the 1984 slide-in Hotpoint range did not have the liftable top on it. When needing to clan under the burners, I had to remove the burner bowls, pivot up the burners and clean underneath. The surface underneath was slick/almost teflon or silicone like and usually fairly easy to clean.
