That is why I use the term "christianists". This is an indictment of the wingnuts and whackjobs who attack us in the name of Christianity. The term was coined by Andrew Sullivan a few years ago.
I was born and raised a Christian. I know many good Christians. also have some family members who go out of their way to express their "Christianity" as hatred, disrespect and nastiness towards me.
Please, see the difference. I am not attacking you. We are, however, under direct attack from these people. This minority has done untold damage. And, if we don't defend ourselves (finally) they will do even more. Listen to what this woman from Oklahoma is saying. See what the christianists are advocating. They want to institutionalize us, castrate us, torture us. There are good reasons why I am upset and vocal about them.

Unfortunately, hatred has co-opted most religions.

It is quite true that most Christians - indeed, most members of all faiths - do not hate. Unfortunately it is only the fanatic minority that anyone sees.

I've seen more homophobia and racism in the leftie community than I care to mention. When you see it in the rightie community, at least it is open and you can fight it.

Unfortunately, I don't see either of the major US political parties working to reverse the erosion of civil liberties -- too many USAians say 'Oh, take my freedoms, make me suffer, just KEEP MY CHILDREN SAFE!!'

It is not, nor has it ever been, a safe world. Citizens, not subjects, allow a society to resist tyranny and violence. We don't have many citizens any longer.
