Hi Robert,
Just curious about what you will be doing to replace the above flash enabled file above (for the Frigidaire washer with the agitator going up and down). Flash is going through a slow (but getting faster) deprecation on all the web browsers.

"make the forums the default page"

I've put thought into making a new shortcut that does exactly that, but haven't acted on it.  The latest version of Firefox hasn't helped matters any.

Firefox is versatile for bookmarks.  Drag a URL to the desktop for easy access.  Can also put multiple bookmarks into a folder in Firefox Bookmarks, it'll automatically add a selection "Open All in Tabs" at the bottom of the folder.

"..URL directly to the pink unimatic animation on ...&#3

Oh is *that* what it is? Glad to know wasn't having vision problems.... *LOL*

Have had "Flash" turned off for ages so haven't seen the animation (or anything else that needs it to run) in probably a decade or more.

Would love to block all Active and or Java content along with a few more plug-ins; but then many websites today simply won't work at all. Wanting to do so because am just that fed up to the back teeth with adverts and whatever that slide/appear out of nowhere and or videos that automatically download and play.

The transition from flex to HTML5 has been a painful one for some web developers. Although I agree, HTML5 is a superior, easier to use technology. HTML5 has vast libraries of tools available too.

And how:

However as with nearly everything else HTML5 is making inroads: http://matthewjamestaylor.com/blog/responsive-banner-ads

It once was if you disabled ActiveX/Flash Youtube videos (or anyone else's for that matter) often would not run. Now there is just a delay as HTML loads and thus videos will begin.

Again have had ActiveX/Flash restricted for ages; but that meant having to un click that box for Youtube videos to play; now they just do so regardless. Only way to prevent is to take my Internet security level to "High", which stops nearly everything, but makes the Web almost useless these days because nothing really works.

Should also like to say

Understand reasons behind adverts on web sites and all, but things have gone too far IMHO.

You start reading something on a page then out of no where one must swat away various "responsive" adverts that block the view. Then music or whatever begins to play and or you hear conversation in background. Only to discover somewhere on page video content has automatically downloaded and begun to play.

My main concern is security and privacy; like to know what exactly is being downloaded onto my computer and why.

Will continue to be so as mobile/tablets or whatever devices displace desktop computers.

Leaving aside the orphaned websites created (and now largely forgotten) by people on Geocities and so forth, much of the Internet has moved onto and away from desktops to various mobile devices. As such content must now be able to display on a wide variety of screen sizes. For that you need something more dynamic and HTML5, CSS and others fit the bill.

For those who earn money via their websites and as such SEO optimization matters dearly, there is no longer a choice.

Amen to all you've stated, L.   No doubt about it; this deplorable situation exists because those whose personal devices have become an appendage want instant gratification and to have things play immediately.  Those of us who would rather decide for ourselves haven't just been marginalized; we are no longer being considered.  The modern A.D.D. types are simply used to swiping ads away and think nothing of it.
