Huge Estate Sale in Tonawanda, NY

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

WOW. That looks to be one incredible wet-dream of a sale! The curtains, the furniture, the lamps, the dishes, the kitchen, the NOS detergents, the TVs... AMAZING!

Glad it's not in Minneapolis, or I'd be pitching a tent and shining up the credit card! LOL

Finally got all the pics to work... I dunno but I do not in any way shape or form believe this is an "estate sale" of stuff from the owners house. It looks way too staged and I would near bet my life 90% of that stuff was trucked in there under false pretenses.. or am I full of it?

Oh My...

I'ze getting the vapors! Pass the smelling salts?

Already have the GE toaster and Regina Electrikbroom, but oh my that detergent stash!

Lemon scented FAB detergent sadly (or gladly depending upon one's point of view) lacked today's chemical fixatives that keep scent lingering for weeks, months or years. The few boxes one has been able to nab and try had nary a whiff of lemon to them. Pity.

The dryer is the 1958 WA-820R that began the panel style that would persist until 1963. The model began as a re-working of the 1957 TOL (without pedestals) and was redesigned mid-year. There is a member here (Bygted, I think) who owns one of these:

Goodness Gracious!!!!!!!!

I never!!!! I had to change my underdrawers twice!!!!!! I thought I had some things, but I never, are you sure the name of the street isnt Heavens Way!

If there was HSR to that part of NYS would consider, but am not driving >six hours or incurring the expense of a plane and car rental even for a chance at such a haul. *LOL*

Those laundry and other consumer products look in very good condition to have been all stored in someone's home for years. Perhaps they are part of NOS from a store or something?

MickeyD is being awful quiet on this...... Hmmmmm.....

I thought the same thing! Soon, we'll be looking at pictures of him waving from inside a mountain of All-Temperature CHEER suds that fills the whole deck of his house - I can't wait for that!

Too much time on my hands

Do you think we could persuade him to buy some of those for some of us? I'm actually considering driving 8 hours to Buffalo, pretending to visit my cousins, just so I can hit this sale with an empty car. I'd really like all that vintage Dial soaps bars in those beautiful American Standard bathroom hues in those beautiful vintage foil wrappers. Boy, am I a pathetic cheap-seat collector.

The lengths I'll go to for phosphates...

It's very possible that some of those detergents, paper products, soaps etc were brought in from elsewhere, but maybe these people had a store of their own from which this stuff might have come. Just saying.

Lane Chest

That's a fine (and hard to find) Lane Cedar Chest in that house! The GE dryer is fine also, but if I could only walk away with one item..... it would be the cedar chest.

I knew a lady..

That was just like this! When she died they found chests full of Jello, Sugar, all manner of soap..a case of 1950s Super Suds.etc...Some of the Jello was from the 50s....believe it or not, my Cousin did the estate sale and she tried the Jello just to see if it was still good...you couldnt tell it from new!

Well Quite Honestly

Am not saying would turn my nose up at any of this horded, but my days of vintage detergent "collecting" must cease for awhile until sort a few things out.

Tend to only use Persil and modern products in the AEG due to it's long cycles, low water usage and so forth. So that means quite a few vintage detergents are off limits.

Back on topic, those detergent boxes look far to clean and "new" to have been stored in a basement or something. Am still going with they came from a shut down store or something.

Here Is Why I See Making This Road Trip As Dicey

If the notice had not be posted here and otherwise was in limited circulation then there is a good chance much of the "goodies" would be there upon arrival. However now that the cat is out of the bag there is no telling what will remain if one did not arrive when doors opened on Thursday morning. I for one am not giving up my weekend to drive twelve or so hours total to find out the joint has been picked clean upon arrival.

Tried to contact the people running this estate sale but thus far not a single response.

We also have no idea about pricing. I can stay home and pay $40/per box for vintage detergent on eBay. *LOL*

If one did make the trip you can bet it would be with an eye for resale, after keeping a few choice items for one's self. I mean one has to make back the costs of travel and what not.....

We have a friend who runs estate sales for families. It is very common to combine sales from a few different homes into one home. They try to use a place for the sale that is of the same caliber as the goods are. For instance, it there is a lot of silverware and tiffany items, they'll use a very upscale home to show those in. Sometimes it is surprising what comes out of homes that are less showy. Why? You get more money for the items if they are shown in a nicer place.

His line to bargain hunters "We are selling the items for the family, we are not giving it away."
