As I trudge ever forward on the mini-manse I wanted to put light kits on the two HUNTER ceiling fans that don't have them. This is where it gets confusing. 99.9% of all the ceiling fans ever created use the same type "switch cap" (bottom of fan motor) that has the center plug you just pop out to mount light. But Hunter? Oh hell no! Their fans have a bottom cap held on with two phillips heads and no center hole. I bought two HAMPTON BAY "universal" kits before I noticed the difference. Has anyone run into this and any suggestions? HUNTER does make it's own lights but of the three that I would own, all were out of stock and at least twice as expensive.

If you can take a picture, I can probably help you. All my ceiling fans throughout the house are 1920's-1940's (Hunter and 2 Diehl) and have been slightly modified to accept more modern light kits out of necessity. Under most circumstances, it can be done very easily.

However, the bigger problem is the current limiter that's installed.

Post some pics and we'll go from there.

thanks Art. I was over there today and gave the fans a good look. I gave some thought to jury rigging them, but wisely gave that up. It's only two of the ten in the house so I'll live with it. It does piss me off that Hunter isn't "universal".
