Was this The Huppmobile, building appliances, much like GM, Nash-American Motors & Ford makes did, too?

What about EASY? How long was that name used for washers & dryers before becoming Gibson & the pre-GE-owned Hotpoint, too?

Pretty much a mid-to-late '60's thing that would die out & to a buy-out, but I would like to know more!

Was this The Huppmobile?

One's hopefully helpful short answer is YES, it is one in the same!!

The longer answer, is:

After Huppmobile stopped production of cars in 1941 (ending with the previously-known-as Front Drive 810/12 Cord Bodied ( Huppmobile Skylark), it was reorganized after bankruptcy into the Hupp Corporation. This information one know's 100%. Do not have the exact history written here for Automobile Quarterly at the ready, which explained in detail Huppmobile's transformation; but this is the gist.. the companies interests, post-auto's was varied, but rooted in manufacture of varying device(s).

One is unsure as to when Hupp Corp. actually purchased Easy, but it was sometime in the early 60's (unless someone out there has the exact year at the ready, I would like to offer (1963) as the year that seems to ring true..). One believes, thru reading material heretofore, that Hupp Corporation was purchased by White Consolidated in (1967).

Circa, 1964:

Thank you, I so far appreciate a response and an insight as I am wondering about the connection...

I happen to have a 1964 Consumer Reports paper-back buying guide, and you know what? A number of these sorts of makes of washers and dryers seem to have the same (mostly low) ratings, and are the Gibson, Easy, and even Hotpoint makes--but in the case of Gibson & Easy made by The Hupp Corporation...

While there are also Gibson refrigerators and freezers, made by Gibson Refrigeration Corporation in Grand Rapids, MI, reviewed in that book as well...

Okay, GOATFARMER, you may be right...

I need to get that old book back in my hand (I also wonder if ABC, Philco and Blackstone may also have been part of the fold)...

Just randomly curious on the reviews of these appliances in that book & even searched through whatever archives I'd could here at AW, before deciding to start this one...

Like I said, Hupp Corp designated Gibson, or Gibson-related, and noticed how inferior it seemed that anything was reviewed had been related to these brands, or in short, just wasn't GE, Maytag, Sears Kenmore or Whirlpool...

A trip back in time & me being of appliance buying age surely would've at least have made a Maytag my warshin' machine...!
