When I last heard, the gentleman who had promised me the three wringers and the AMP only to have it all fall through was all closed up and gone. Oh well, I had found a few neat machines elsewhere as a consolation prize of sorts.

THEN, today I was out on route and got a call from base that the gentleman had stopped by and left me a 'square shaped machine'... REALLY??? I think that was the fastest I ever (professionally of course) tore thru a route in a long time. This is what was waiting for me... SCORE!

Ain't she pretty?

Other than a few scratches on the cabinet, this little one is in almost showroon condition. Remember, I had never laid eyes on this as the deal was all verbal. It almost looks unused...

The knobs are in perfect condition as pretty much everything else. None of the usual chin music associated with things being put on the top (or worse...).

Thanks, Eddie. It only gets better!

The required money shot! Say Ahhhh! The agitator is almost virgin with no marks or discoloration in it anywhere!

One man shouldn't be allowed to find this much goodness in one sitting!

Holy moly. What a score indeed. That is just unbelievable!

Congratulations!!!!!!!

I <3 red agitators.

Ok, there is SOME sweat equity here. Cleaning the undercarrage and preflighting before the big tryout. Also, this one is supposed to need a pump. I wonder if she lost the pump early in life then sat on display forever. That would explain the general condition! Hey Combo, it is true this uses the same 25 drive belt as the later models?

We need a pump, huh? THAT'LL be a pill...

NOT!

I think I managed to buy the last NIB/NOS pump on the West Coast. This will come in handy. Also, we need a new power cord as the old one is VERY dried and cracked to the point it shows copper wiring. Not good. I'll most likely replace it with a good old fashioned Dependable Care cord that has the third ground wire for safety. Once I get some breathing room, I'll try it out and see if I can figure out how to... 'encourage it to run with the lid up' so I can most definately shoot video.

and it's not even May yet...

WOW!!! That is amazing. Congratulations. That is being in the right place at the right time.

All Together Everybody:

RENO WASH-IN! RENO WASH-IN!

Andy, you are well-positioned to snag some nice machines, but this one his off the hook!

Congratulations. I have never seen that modern plastic Maytag lens on a machine old enough to have the float in the Gyrator and I have never seen the gray dials. When did they make a white fill flume? This is a most unique AMP.

Wow RCD, I'm floored! Painted under lid model with a white fill flume, very cool. Are the dials silver painted? Wondering if someone touched them up at some point. Looks good with the A3MP lighted bezel.

Yes, the later helical drive belt will work just fine. Love the NOS pump kit.

It's easy to bypass the merc switch that triggers when the lid is open. Pretty straight forward once you get in there. The only kicker is you'll need to keep the lid down when the machine is filling for wash and rinse.

I've been meaning to change out the timer on my AMP and hook it up. Was just thinking about it last week. You may have just inspired me to actually go in the basement and work on something.

Congrats on a fine example on one of the most unique automatics ever made.

I'd like to echo what Robert said...

WOW! That is really in AMAZING condition... absolutely mint! CONGRATULATIONS!

So Mr Maytag man.... now that you have that INCREDIBLE AMP, are you going to retire?

;-)

Kevin

Going to retire?

I couldn't do that. Like the corner pusher retiring, when I do a whole bunch of you will suffer 'haul away withdrawal'! Besides, I'm enjoying a very rare hot streak...

I love it when someone at AW finds a pristine vintage appliance. Except for the issues under her skirt, she looks not a day older than when she rolled off the assembly line in '52. I'll add my voice to the chorus: Congratulations!

WOW - what a score! Now THAT's the kind of things I dream of at night!! Congratulations on a great find, Andy - you must have done something very kind to a Maytag in a previous life... LOL

I'm not a fan of AMPs, but WOW, that thing of beauty is certainly the epitome of "minty."

1952 AMP WASHER

Drew I am so happy you got this washer, it was fun talking to you the other evening and sharing your enthusiasm about it. The gray knobs and dials are a mystery as I have never seen these and the white fill flume probably got painted as I think these were all black originally. So we are all dying to know if you have fired it up yet?.

Not yet, dang it!

I've had some commitments after work the past few days. I see it staring at me, waiting patiently... I think I might get to it... Tuesday?

The knobs are a bit of a puzzle. The red wording is intact but the underside of the dials and screw on knob is white. Unscrew the knob that holds down the timer dial and it's white Under there as well BUT the knobs were NOT repainted. Hmmmm, could it be exposure to the sun or some kind of agent?
