The manual I have ( it is a OEM Maytag repair manual) says to use hi-temp adhesive to glue the felt tumbler seals in place. Their adhesive costs between 25.00 to 30.00 dollars for a 2 oz. tube. what can I use in place of this type of adhesive or do I need to use their adhesive. Online shows Maycor # 055980 is what the OEM adhesive should be.

Thanks,

Markc

What's the model #?

As far as I know, Maytag switched to bendable metal tabs that hold the front/rear felt seals in place starting in mid 1989 with the white drum.

my dryer is a model- LDG9334AAE. I have an actual Maytag service manual (16001146) for this dryer. It does say that it has locking tabs that have to be
pryed out to replace seal and then a "rubber adhesive is used to hold the seal." I found the adhesive at Home Depot for $18.00/tube. I think I will wait to see
if they used that adhesive from the factory when I start my repair.

my oem service manual shows that the felt has two different sides. one side goes toward the tumbler and the " pink side goes opposite. I received my parts for the rebuild and the felt I got is the same oem both sides. Just plain felt.
i guess i will find out when I start tomorrow. Any thoughts

The newest Maytag dryer I worked on was a DG9900 from 1993. When I replaced the factory installed felt seals, I gently pried up the tabs, slipped the old felt out, the new felt in, and pushed the tabs down. There was no sealant used by the factory. Perhaps Maytag changed back to using a bead of sealant again later on, like they did from 1976 - early 1989.

Here's a slightly newer dryer using the same method. No sealant used.
