I can be sure, It's a vintage roaster

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Great find there, that is a rather rare model RO-29 that was made in the early 1940s.
I too recently picked up the same model in pristine shape.

I just love the script writing on this model

Wow. That is just goooorgeous... Awesome find! I did't realize it was as early as the 40s. I found one from the 50s last year at an estate sale. We used it for our Thanksgiving turkey as well as our Easter ham. Robert has the manual for ours loaded on automatic ephemera -- love some of the recipes in it. Scrambled eggs for 50, anyone??

Very nice!  Much better looking (IMO) than the ubiquitous gray & white Westinghouse roasters, although the window in the lid of those later models helps to reduce heat loss from peeking.

I agree with Sam.  The script logo is both beautiful and uncommon.

After seeing the photo, it reminded me of one I have tucked away in the basement closet, I took a look and it's the same model!  RO29!

Why is this rare?  I do not have the aluminum pans that are shown in the second picture, just the large inner pan.  What is the best way to use these?  I seem to recall being told there should be water in the base, for more even heat, and have done that on rare occasions, but the outer pan does not look like it should be used that way.

Matt, I think I've read in other roaster threads that the insert can be inverted and used as a lid when cooking something like a turkey that needs more clearance than the regular lid provides.

Speaking for myself, I'd think twice about using a roaster that way.  Cleaning the heating well would be a lot more cumbersome than cleaning the insert.

I did not realise I came upon

a rare 70 year old machine! I guess this is what WH was doing before they joined the fight to whup the Krauts and the Japs. (That's wartime slang for the Germans and the Japanese)

(and then he fell asleep in the chair again)
Posting for Nick - his Katie.
Good morning!

Nice score!

I'm ashamed to admit how many of these I have, but can honestly say they see use.
I've never seen the buffet inserts-how cool is that?

The only thing missing is Katie doing Betty Furness!
