I just came across this ebay But-it-now sale for a GE Mobile Maid Dishwasher - they are asking $1000.

Hello Mike, let me get this straight... this eBayer is not even sure if the Mobile Maid he/she wants to sell will actually work, but he/she want to earn the same amount of money you'd probably spend on a new and nearly TOL dishwasher.
My grandpa used to say "You know, Lunatic Asylum is written on the outside..." which meant that too many crazy people - just like this eBayer - were still on the streets, in the stores, etc, but I don't think (or at least hope) someone crazy enough to buy it for one thousand bucks will easily turn up...

I bought the identical dishwasher several years ago for 10.00 at the Goodwill, in better shape than that, and GAVE it to my friend Steve Riley, he uses it as his other DW as he keeps a Kosher kitchen.

Hey Mike.
That is almost the first dishwasher my family ever had. I think ours was a year or two older than that one. It was a workhorse and cleaned extremely well, but could be heard blocks away when it was running. It has the bowtie type impeller.
I guess these people think they are going to get rich quick.
Maybe they mistyped and meant to say $100.

I think a lot of them don't know and use wishful thinking. The ones that are unsure, I think, put their items up with a "pie-in-the-sky" price and then use "Best Offer" to bring them down to earth. It seems that was what happened with our friend in New Jersey who had those lovely NIB pink Caloric appliances. They started at 9K and now they're in the low hundreds.

I would bet the seller doesn't have any idea what to ask. It also is a make offer situation. Rather than once again sit here and complain about the price, someone make an offer. Then, if the seller declines and demands some crazy number, resume bitching!

My old boss had a fabulous Greek word on a plaque on his wall
"SKEPSOU" (THINK!).
In Greek it is reflexive so by proxy it means "HEY YOU, THINK"! OR "I SHOULD THINK". No one else can really do that FOR you!

People can ASK whatever price they want, what they GET is usually substantially lower. The seller has no clue, but they know it's old, and worth something.
If someone were to make a SERIOUS offer, something a little more realistic, they might be surprised when the seller accepts.

Well done dogboy44! I always do that when I see a CRAZY price on eBay, I can understand that sometimes people does not know what to ask, but camon guys 1000$..........It's the same for the eBay's 100$ 70s percolator or 80$ Rusty steam irons...... it's way too much for an high starting price!

i picked one up in toledo ohio 2 years ago for 60 bucks and it looks just like that one! i'd say he's crazy!
