I Dream of Maytag

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

hillbillies

early episodes of the Beverly Hillbillies included a credit for the American Gas Association,(or some such), with the gas stove and dryer wonder if the Gas company was a sponsor? alr2903 P.S. That turquoise just Pops, id like to see it come back.

You folks are wearing me out. This is one of the best post that I have seen around in a while. So much fun and laughter I can hardly stand it.

Now, all ya'll calm down and accept the truth, MAYTAG, was the best.

I do have others, but none top it.

Love.

Steve

Isn't that interesting? It almost looks like they have a gas cooktop AND a Frigidaire Flair....

And Greg - don't you be hating on gas dryers with standing pilots. I used to love my folk's Speed Queen. Looking at it used to make me so sleepy.... ;-)

Incredible

They had 2 stoves in that kitchen. It looks like the one in the back was the same that Samantha had in here kitchen. With the uplifting glass door.
And it is probably true that they were all standing pilot. In real life, that would be a hot kitchen.

I remember these kind of scenes when I was young. You would be on the edge of your seat, or yanked from it. But they passed so quick. You only hoped the next episode showed "something". That kind of thing was the highlight of the show for me.
Seeing Grannys maytags in the background on The Beverly Hillbillies.
Hoping to see the Bradys Avacodo whirlpool W&D, or Greg using a tank vacuum cleaner while cleaning the car(electrolux?), or Alice using an upright.
Even Greenacres, as enjoyably decrepid as there house was... come on someone use that pink Maytag, or load the pink top loading dishwasher wrong again, or show us a close-up of the wire management system on the wall by the washer. Gimmeee somethin'
On "Don't eat the Daisies" I was drawn in when the grandmother from "the waltons" played a maid and didn't understand that (this was the 60s) The Maytag in the basement could operate Automatically and didn't require her to sit and wait for it. So here she is sitting next to the washer and we see a center dial Maytag(I don't remember the color). I watched the show for that kinda stuff.
On Knotslanding, The time when Diana was taking the 1979/80 KM canister vacuum over to Abbys to borrow it to her and Karen stopped her, and they got into an arguement.
Kate and Allie they had a almond Whirlpool belt drive washer and dryer down in the basement.
The time on Andy Griffith when Beas freezer was breaking down, causing the lights to dim and they had all this meat to deal with, eww-yuck. The freezer was literally vibrating and making noises on the back porch. Then there was the time Andy bought the town laundrymat which had Whirlpool machines that broke or leaked or something and he got in trouble as being an "official" he shouldn't have his time being taken up taking care of a laundramat.
"these are just a few of my favorite things.."
Does anyone remember the kitchen that Buffy and Jodie had in their New York "apartment". With that Hu-u-u-unky "Mr. French", don't get me started. whew.

Dallas's Southfork kitchen had 2 Almond 1980? Frigidaire top freezer refrigerators separated by a bank of cabinets. I don't know what other appliances they had in that kitchen.
No, I didn't think j.r. ewing was cute. .. but Bobby, and some of the younger stars, like Mitch, Lucy's boyfriend for a while.... yum yum.

Mac and Sally

Anyone remember the 36 wide coppertone beauty, with upper ovens on Mcmillan and wife, it was just fabulous. I always thought it was an Okeefe & Merrit.

Dan, looking at the dryer made you sleepy?

lol.

Are you sure it wasn't the Carbon Dioxide eminating from the pilot light that was making you "sleepy"?

I like your Flair link, very kewl.

Now, all ya'll calm down and accept the truth, MAYTAG, was the best.

Really now, well at least Sally hangs out with friends who know if you are going to do Turquoise, there really is only one brand to do...

Robert

"that episode was from February 27, 1968 (Season 3, Episode 22)".

Shane was just a lil bun in the oven when that episode aired! =)

Frigidaire Lid

I was wondering why that lid was fixed to be upright on the Frigidaire, but they needed to hide that the Kitty wasn't really in the machine. (I hope)

Wrong Manual for the Frigidaire.....

Isn't she holding a Lady Kenmore manual? I can't hardly make out the name but the writing looks like that, and pic of the machines looks like LK's also.

Robert and Don...

Robert... How do you get those great stills? Are you pulling them off the DVDs? I love the shows from the '60's; the color is still fabulous... until they went cheap and stopped filming shows. Ahh.... memories.

Don... that's a great looking set of maytags (my personal favorite vintage machines). Love the turquoise!

Robert LOLOLOLOL

1st pic: Sybill looks stoned, she's wasted man let's face it.

2nd pic: Washer is not plugged in, and that hair, OMG, where to start. She doesn't look too happy about it either.

3rd pic: If she or any of the cast gain a single pound from eating that cake on the counter she is going to bust out of that dress.

4th pic: suddenly, washer does not have a drain hose??? Where did that just happen off to? You can also see the wire they used to prop the lid vertical.

5th pic: the cake looks tempting. "(thinking) do I eat some cake or do I save the flea bitten cat? hmm I hate these choices. I know it shows on my face the inner turmoil I am in. hmm."

6th pic: Cybills waist-line. WHERE IS IT? she looks like a stick-figure.

7th pic: 1. the shine on those appliances is great. you have to agree. they were new!
2. Sally apparently doesn't have breasts, either.
3. He be looking mighty fiiiine in those tight pants.

8th pic: em-hmmm ba-bee, He definately looks good in those tight, wet, clothes. Like a banana ready to peel and ...
I think Sybill is transmutating and one of the evil personalities are coming forth. AHH... get me out, NOW.

9th pic: LOLOLOLOLOL "does kitty want to be pet? whoa, put, the, owwe, claws, we gotta trim those, OWWWW. damn-it"

(actually, I like Sally Field, and not because of her breasts or waist-line or even a lack there of.)

Great Post Robert.. lol

Oh Master,,,,,,,,,, Try what? Isn't it supposed to do this?
Yes that's exactly what those Maytags do Don! Except with more suds pouring out, here I'll show you, I'll be over in 10 minutes with a box vintage Tide, now put a pot of coffee on. Look at the shine on your Turquoise Maytag set, they really do look like they were blinked out of the DVD!!!

How do you get those great stills?
Ancient Homo Secret ;)

I Dream of Cleaver

I'd like to see appliance shots of June Cleaver's all electric G.E. kitchen with the bottom freezer refrigerator, pushbutton cooktop, and twin stacked wall ovens. And the Beaver/Larry washer episode I mentioned in the Bobby Brady thread. And one episode where Wally vacuums Ward's '61 Plymouth 4door hardtop with June's G.E. Swiveltop cleaner.

Ancient Homo Secret ...

... Our Robert, some hot shot!! :-)

Those are great stills; is that from "Gidget"?

All I can say is, "poor kitty-cat"!!

Oh ... Don ... I can bring a box of vintage Tide, too; should we see what your 806 can do? :-) We could even use the suds saver and overflow the laundry tubs!!!

set details

Does anyone else kinda find it odd that the washing machine is like 6 inches from the kitchen sink?
Granted I would never want to hide those turquoise beauties, but sheesh there's something about dirty clothes being near a food prep area that kinda gives me the heebie jeebies!

At least the Bradys had a laundry room

It sure is Geoff, it's from the episode #18 "Like Voodoo" (01/13/66)--Gidget believes that a curse put on her by a gypsy is coming true when accidents begin to happen.

Jeff back in the 60's when I was little both my grandmothers lived in apartments in East Paterson, NJ (now Elmwood Park) with their washing machine in the Kitchen right next to the kitchen sink. My Dad's mom had a 1957 MOL Kenmore and my Mom's Mom had a 1958 Frigidaire Deluxe Pulsamatic. Oh those memories are so vivid in my mind.

Too bad there was no matching Filtrator dryer around to dry out that cat. Or microwaves! ;-)
Once again, GREG! Naughty LOL

Yes that HAIR does say it all in #221697!

makes sense

for an apartment, to have the washer close to the sink, probably for the proximity to plumbing and such.

I love "I dream of Jeannie" I am trying to remember if the Maytags made any more appearances.

Gidget's BF in a wet shirt is no curse!!!
