Washers in kitchens....

Hey Jeff

Thats pretty much the norm over this side of the pond- I have mine in an alcove by the bathroom , and the dishwasher goes where the washer should be

As far as TV show appliances go I always get a kick out of Lucy & Ricky Ricardo's Westinghouse stove circa seasons two and three (1952-53 & 53-54). It's the same model my mom had when I was growing up. It had the coolest lights. The color would chnage on the control knobs depending on the heat setting. Westinghouse apparently liked this feature since they adapted it for the 1960 (?) laundromat with the square window as the different cycles would illumninate a different color.

Ok, It's either a bundt cake pan or a mixing bowl for a Nutone built-in food center. The mixer attaching in the middle and spinning around the bowl?

Thanks for finding the the thread on "Andy's Investment". I should have known it would have come up at some time. I see why I thought they were Whirlpools, but I, like others in the group realized there were things that said no, can't be.
the slant of the panel looked whirlpool, but 1980s??
And other people have worded it better than I could, all the other give aways.
As for why they went to such extent to disguise them. If I remember right there was machines that weren't working and had to be repaired. Perhaps they didn't want their name tainted that way, especially with "a sherrif"?? whatever.

The hairspray and the EPA comment is funny. sadly true. And the beads of pearls, OMG. But these were people who grew up at the end of the Victorian Era. (yuck)

Andy's Investment...

Aha! A laundromat with pink toploaders. That brings back memories. In the early sixties I went to a laundromat with my mother where they had similar washers. Those were the only automatic toploaders that I have ever seen in the Netherlands and until I found this forum I was unsure about my memories because no one could verify them. Even my mother doesn't know anymore. Looking at the pictures I also remember the sliders for putting coins in the machine. The coins were brass and had a star cut out in the centre. The laundromat is still there but all washers have been replaced.

for the jetaction agitator...you can see the top of the jetcone in one of those pics so they didn't gut that machine.

No they didn't gut the machine because you can literally see the agitator going up and down in the show.

The hunk in the Gidget series is Peter Duel, he also co-starred with Judy Carne in "Love On A Rooftop", and with Ben Murphy in "Alias Smith and Jones", post Gidget serieses.

Trying to picture a laundry room somewhere off the kitchen in that sprawling South Forks Ranch, but drawing only blanks.

Red Head's Hair Do Stays Intact

Honey that was the era of the once a week wash and set "Big Hair". Damn head of hair was plastered with enough Adorn, Alberto "VO5", or whatever one's favourite shellac in a can was, to last the duration. Well, at least until one got down the beauty shop next week to start the thing all over again.

Great snaps by the way. Had forgotton all those garish colours (clothes, make-up, and decor) the 1960's and early 1970's had. Appliances excluded of course.

For a housewife that red-headed woman with all that make-up, looks like she's running the local knocking shop,or at least perhaps is the area bike. But that's Hollywood.

Looking at Jeannie, am surprised CBS gave the program such grief over her belly button showing at times, consider how much bosom she is showing. *LOL*

And, thanks for the trip down memory lane. A fellow vintage sitcom buff--YAY! It's great to know another contempory with similar taste--we get the same jokes and references. So refreshing. Greg N. and I have already been reliving episodes from some of our favorite shows. We also had great fun watching and listening to Betty Buckley sing the theme song from Eight is Enough in Chicago. Too cool. And, Tania V. and I will never tire of sharing stories about Lucy.

Jeff and Robert: My then wife and I bought an 806 pair in 1969 The washer cost $469.00 and the matching gas dryer was $429.00. So even by today's standards, they were pricey.

BTW: She still has them, and they are still running.
