I found these two machines up in Chico California back in November and was finally able to bring them home yesterday. At over nine hundred miles round trip it was a long way to go to get them and a long time spent on the road, but totally worth it. Early last year when I first stumbled across this blog and had a chance to look over the collections some of the folks here have posted, I found myself drawn to the understated elegance of the 700 series design and wondered if I'd ever be able to find a set of my own. Well, I finally found a set on Craigslist last November and they were even in the color I wanted. The washer is a YA700 and the dryer is a DG700. Both are in working condition and were in use until October when the owner purchased a new set.

Here they are in the back of my truck just outside of the south side of Chico where I stopped to take some pictures of trees growing along side the road. My friend Mitch came along to help load them up. That's his arm in the window.

The machines aren't perfect though, and I am going to need to find an agitator for the washer that looks more correct. This one will due for the near term after I replace a couple of missing parts, but I'd really like to find a black bakelite agitator or at least a black plastic one, that is, if one is available.

~ D-jones, CONGRATS on finding and bringing them home! I'd love to see them sometime! I also LOVE the color too (I got a similar set on October).

Also, I sent you an e-mail.

~ Mike, Yes the original agitator is the black bakelite plastic and seem to be as rare as "hens teeth" these days.

Thanks Guys

I really appreciate the kind words. And I agree, this really was a great score. There are people on this blog who've been looking for a set like this for a lot longer than I have. On my way back to Burbank I kept checking the rear view mirror just to see that they really were sitting in the back of my truck. And yes, I believe the original agitator would have been black Bakelite like the one in the set revvinkevin just got. Eventually I'd like to find one of those, but for now I think a black powerfin would do nicely.

It's all in the search wording

I did lots of searches for vintage Maytags using different terms but the only search term that turned these up was "retro maytag". It just depends on how the seller has described them in the listing, especially the title. Sorry you missed out Washerlover. Hopefully another set will come along.
