Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Ours went..

To my Uncles summer house in Montana about 1972, we had 2 since then and when he sold the place in the late 90s it was still running and had never had a service call.!

And Guess What!

The Westinghouse replaced...a 1938 Apex!Belt drive, the seal blew out and my mother said it ran them out of the house!!!Both my Uncle and Grandmothers nephew worked at Leftwitch electric, so naturally that is where they went, you really could not hear it run unless you were standing next to it, and I remember Grandmother defrosting in the summer and putting all the frost in a glass , and pouring tea over it for me, i thought that was a treat!LOL...Oh yeah, before the 38 Apex...they had a ICE BOX!, The REA came thru in 38 with electricity!

I can see how that freezer would keep ice cream firm.  A very nice model.  Our '49 just had the "freezer" in the upper right corner.

I'm sure the '50 sounds exactly like the '49 when running.  I would recognize that sound instantly if I ever heard it again.

The asking price seems high, but I understand how it would be worth it to you.  Good Westies of this vintage don't show up all that often.

Keep us posted!

That fridge looks to be in great shape and seems to have all the parts. For some reason the "meat keeper" type fixtures always seem to disappear over the years, followed by the veggie drawers. I don't think the price is out of line for its condition and completeness.

I agree, it appears so nice and complete, it would be well worth it, if you would get a less expensive one that needed repairs you could quickly have more than the price of this one in it! And it's relatively close to you to go get it! Keep us posted!

MIGHT???

Hans:

If this is identical to your childhood fridge, close to you and at a price you can afford to pay, I don't see why you wouldn't move Heaven and Earth to get it.

You've been fulminating about new fridges here for so long, the appearance of this one on CL is like God telling you, "I want you to be happy - here you go!"

Go. Get. It.

Not that I have an opinion one way or the other...

Well, I hate to force my views on anyone (Go Get The Fridge!) but I know Hans will do what he feels is best (Go Get The Fridge!) but I agree with Sandy: if this is identical to your childhood fridge (Go Get The Fridge!) and is nearby at a good price (Go Get The Fridge!) then I think Hans should consider adding this to his collection (Go Get The Fridge!) even if just for nostalgia's sake (Go Get The Fridge!). Best Regards, Mr. Subliminal (Dang It, Go Get The Fridge!!).

Seriously...

If its there next week, I am thinking I will get it, It sure would be nice to have a quiet fridge again, I will put the new one in the basement, the only reason I got it was my old 63 Hotpoint was in dire need of paint, and Donald wanted an ice maker, we took the 63 to Dons Moms and she uses it to keep produce from the garden in.
