I found these on Craigslist here in SC. The seller bought them at an estate sale (package deal) and did not want/need.

Going to pick them up in the morning.

Sorry if the pictures as small. This is my first time using the new picture feature.

Great! I have a washer that matches your dryer! I also have the same dryer in white but I'll need to fix a few things on it and repaint it avocado! I have no pics of the dryer, the white one pictured beside it is another one that works and it just found it's matching washer!

I included two scans of my owner's manual and a nice illustration that Ken made (which I did modify just a bit!).

NICE!!!

CONGRATULATIONS on getting the avocado frigidaire set. they look to be in good condition. keep us posted and let us know how they turn out for you!!!
and of course, pictures (& video {hopefully})!!!

:o)

Thanks

Thanks y'all.  I will bring them home tomorrow & put in the storage building out back.  I'll clean them up, move my current Frigidaire Front Loaders out there & bring them in the house as soon as I can.

I would love to find a match for either of these & trade the other out in the future.

Until then, I love the look of these (I had matched sets of each back in the 90's but for some reason got rid of them...) & am excited about bringing them in.

Just got home

Just got home & unloaded the machines.  Upon closer inspection the dryer needs cosmetic work & the seal around the filter is messed up & needs replacing.  The agitator has some chunks out of it & does not have the bleach dispenser, so I am now in the market for a new one.  Also, the top has a couple of chunks out of it as well.   I did plug the washer in & it seems to spin just fine.  I will have to run it through a complete cycle before I know if there are any issues.

P.S.  Now that I own 3 washing machines & 4 dryers, does that make me a collector or just a nut???

does that make me a collector or just a nut???

I've been asking the same question to myself and I figured that...

WELL...

Oh well

I hooked up the 1-18 washer after work today.  I have it out in the storage shed (thankfully).  So, I purchased 20' of drain hose & a "Y" coupling so I could connect the outside hose.  All went well.  I set the water level to the lowest setting to begin with.  When it started to agitate all went well but then the leak began.  It was leaking a lot!  So, I put it on spin which was uneventful until I started seeing smoke & smell a burning kind of smell & then the spin shut down & the washer wouldn't operate at all: no fill, no agitate, nothing.  I decided to let it sit for an hour as most of the water was extracted.  When I came back I plugged it in & the spin kicked in & finished the job.

So, I can tell there are 2 problems: the leak and when it is spinning there is a very loud rumbling/roaring noise.

I will next take the front off & try to find the leak.  Does anyone know about the loud noise?  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Loud spin

So common on these machines. Will need new bearings which is a tough job but not impossible. I did replace them in my '76 1-18 a while back and the spin is very quiet now. Problem is I ate up the threads on the shaft and can't get the nut back on far enough to have an operational tub break. The leak could likely be the tub seal which sits, guess where...right above the roaring, rusty bearings. The seals are still out there but harder to find and they have to be chip and crack free or they will leak even if never used before. I learned that the hard way when I bought a new one that had a hairline crack in it.

Hope this gives you a little help. I also have a scanned copy of a 1-18 repair manual that can help if you think you'll be repairing your machine.

Jon

Thanks Jon

I am guessing the repair manual is on the "Manuals" area of the site.

Also, where does one look for that bearing & the seal?  I saw a couple of bellows on Craigs List.  Was going to check the parts list to see if they were for the 1-18.

The water bellows are unique to the 1-18, one easy way to tell is to look at the hole at the top. If it's "D"-shaped, it's for the older solid-tub models. The 1-18 bellows have a round hole at the top.
