DUDE YOU GOT A DELL!

Very Nice Jason ! You are going to love your Dell ! I just recently bought another Dell. Mine is not as big as yours Jason:p XPS420.
I purchased my first Dell in 2000. It was still running great! Never a crash. The only reason I updated is Because at the first of the year everyone stopped supporting windows 98! Very relunctantly, I started looking. I ordered from Dell outlet a certified and refurbished XPS420. I had to search for tax software that would run on Win98 this year. IN fact I have the two networked together with software called Network magic. I can move files at will. GAWD! I love my old computer, just can't let go
I am loving my new computer also. I do not know what the big issue is with Vista - I am loving it.
So you ought to post some in game screen shots. Now that you have shown us your big one - just how much RAM and Hard drive do you have :)

Good for you. I got my new Dell what a couple of months ago, pretty plain Inspiron 530 and it's working fine right out of the box, no muss no fuss no setup woes just the way I like it. I have no idea what the gripes about Vista are because mine works fine, actually I don't even know what the differences are, looks much the same as the XP on my old machine. I don't do gaming or anything, just surfing and email so anything more would have been overkill fo rme.

Nice system!

Looks like a pretty impressive system. Curious, what are the 3 little windows on the right center of the unit for? They almost look like thumb wheel digits.

As for the Vista experience, it's biggest issue is support for older equipment from my point of view. Being the computer support guy for a lot of people, I get a lot of calls about a printer or scanner that won't work with a persons new computer, and a lot of whining when I tell them it never will. Plus, there is a lot of good software that never will be ported to Vista, which means there are a lot of hidden costs involved with Vista. I have a number of office computers running very solidly and happily on Windows 2000.

I've built systems for almost 2 decades now and I will not install Vista for anyone.

Yeah...

"The only reason I updated is Because at the first of the year everyone stopped supporting windows 98!"

Yep- I'm just loving having my TV set and my computer obsoleted the same year.

I wish corporations and gummint would stop deciding that it's time for them to help themselves to my money again. My having stuff that's paid for is evidently anathema to them.

What gets me is that I am getting nothing out of the replacements. The new TV will get fifteen channels of nothing off the air, same as the old one did (I keep a TV primarily to watch DVDs and news). Windows 98 was (and still is, if truth be known) a perfectly usable and mature OS with remarkable stability for a Microsoft product. Having XP or Vista is not going to get my work done one whit faster or better.

But- the Deciders have decided.

The vista fuss....

I really do not know what the fuss is about Vista. I have been using it for a month now. I have not had one problem yet. I even took one of my games bought in 2004 or 05 and put the cd in the computer and away it went. The only difference i can tell is that it runs faster and I see better graphics.
I wonder if the people having all the problems upgraded their Previous machine from xp to vista.
I am loving it.

I upgraded to Vista from XP SP2 and overall no problems. I did have to install another 1 GB of memory though because it was running slow. It did take a lot of time to install and to get all the peripherals and software working because I had to download numerous fixes and drivers to support the hardware/software that I use. The only thing I have not been able to resolve is the software for my Canon digital camera which is about 10 years old. Neither Microsoft or Canon has drivers to support it and consequently I am unable to download the pics from the camera to the computer. Oh and IE still crashes occasionally just as it did with XP.

Ah! A Commode Door! Hadn't seen one of those screens in years and years! Remeber when people used to run BBS systems with those before the Internet was popular?

Just remember that Microsoft is blaming the lackluster sales of Vista on it's dealer network. They think the dealers aren't pushing it hard enough. The dealers are supposed to tell their customers that "this is something you CAN'T live without!".
But in reality, customers will use what they have until the need arises to upgrade to the next OS. They won't throw dollars into a OS that delivers little more than fancier graphics and lackluster driver support.

That's right, C64 emulation on a Core 2 Quad pc. I was playing Jumpman on it last night and loving it. YES I remember the BBS's, especially the pirate ones. Woo, I did some 2400bps downloading back in the day.

Here's the new PC stats

Core 2 quad 2.4ghz
3gb DDR2 800mhz RAM
750GB Seagate SATA hard drive
DVD/CDRW combo drive
DVD+-RW drive
Nvidia 8800gt video card

The MB is Dell proprietary but it using an Nvidia chipset.

And best of all, WINDOWS XP! Yes, I can live without Vista.
