Eddie very nice indeed. I have to agree with Kevin the clock colors are festive. Best of luck with your new range. arthur

Cool Frigidaire Range

The left dial is an infinite switch that controls the broilers intensity when broiling, this was a very good feature that is missing on most Westinghouse and Frigidaire ranges. On GE and HP electric ranges you could at least turn down the broilers heat by dialing down the thermostats temperature setting. But having this infinite switch control is even better as it allows a quicker more accurate cycling of the broilers heat.

The Tender-Matic system was unique to Frigidaire and made the oven temperature control system very complanted and ended up being one of the main reasons these ranges hit the scrap heap. It used a thermistor to measure oven temperature [ the same one that GE and others used in thier SC ovens ] this cuppled with a responder, a transformer and two heat relays and this is just to make the oven bake and broil, LOL. Then the Tender-Matic system added a potentiometer and two little motors that could move the oven thromostat dial up and down [ one for raising the temperature and one for lowering the temperature ]

With the Tender-Matic system Frigidaire said you could put a roast in the oven and just set the doneness desired and the oven would do the rest [ you didn't even have to set an oven temperature and you could put the roast in the night before and in theory it would not ever overcook. Depending on your initial control setting this system slowly lowered the ovens temperature to about 150 degrees by literately turning down the thermostat dial.

Eddie hopefully your new range will work properly and you can let us know how the roast comes out. I have a Frigidaire 40" 1968 TOL self-cleaning range that has this feature and have always meant to try out the TM system.

Very nice, indeed Eddie! Now, just find a Cycla-Matic Fridge and a Dish-Mobile and you'll have earned your Frigidaire crown.. LOL

I've never seen a 'pull and clean' oven before - can you please post a photo when you do need to clean it??

Here's what the pull 'n clean looks like...

on ours. It's a '63 Deluxe. The pull 'n clean makes it loads easier to clean this oven. It was one of the selling features for us when we bought it. And it needed to be cleaned anyway, so I got to try it out. :)

Very nice range,

That looks a lot like the Frigidaire 30" model that the local high school had installed in the home ec room, when the building was constructed in '66. They had four 30" models, and at least two 40". They were White, Turquoise, Yellow and Coppertone.

Pull & Clean Frigidaire Ranges

I had a 40" double oven Frigidaire P&C range it was the same 1964-5 range that was the subject of this thread. It was the Custom Imperial and had two P&C oven liners, I removed the clips at the bottom of the liner so you could lift the liners completely out of the range and take them outside the house and spray them with oven cleaner and hose them down. It was two bad that Frigidaire did not built them this way and they should also have had a lift off oven door like Westinghouse and GE did. This range also had the Tender-Matic system that I described above in the larger right hand oven. We could never get this oven to work properly so I installed a regular hydraulic thermostat in the oven and gave the range to Steve R in Roanoke Va. to use as an extra canning range in the basement.

Pull and Clean

Spent the morning exploring the Custom DeLuxe

Lookey Lookey... Pull and Clean.

This is so cool. I used to marvel at the pics in Mom's BHandG and Good Housekeeping but never actually saw one until now

In Place

The Test:

All Burners work well. (Yes, Mr Coldspot66 reminded me not to fire the "Heat Minder " on high.

The Oven is about 25 degrees off, but I let her run for an hour and she kept sa Very Consistant Temperature.

I attribute the Temp variation due to the Temperature Selector has about a 1/8th in of play in either direction.

I've Always Wondered....

....One thing about Pull 'n Clean.

The pull-out oven liner is open at the top, obviously to allow the broiler element assembly to remain stationary.

But that means the ceiling of the oven cavity is also stationary, and doesn't pull out for easy cleaning.

Doesn't that mean you still have to stand on your head to get that area clean? I can see where Pull 'n Clean eases the cleaning job by a fair amount, but it still looks to me like one of the tough parts still has to be done the hard way.

Am I wrong?

Is the Ceiling of the Oven Stationary ?

Yes.

And I would imagine it would be a eh hem...Bugger to clean. The Broiler Element, Thermostat sensor, and Light are all stationary.

I for one Never use the Broiler as I will always Grill Steaks, Chops and Meats outside year 'round as I don't like the lingering odor of meats cooked in the house.

Unless I'm browning meat for Pot Roast, Short Ribs and other things of that like.

Sauteeing doesn't bother me as much as Broiling.

My Radient Tubes are Glowing.

Good Lord !!!

This Range cooks EXACTLY like my Grandmother's Frigidaire. She taught me how to cook on that range and the burner controls react just like her 1964.

What a trip down memory lane. I have to say I am very partial to Radiant Tubes and Corox on the Westys.

Question on the Clock

The Model is RCDG-39J
Ser. 52C97977

Which should place her at 1965.

What does one use to lubricate the clock motor ?

You can hear the clock motor and it did work for about 20 minutes.

Thanks in advance.

Oh and by the way Jon, I'm making Chili. LOL !!!

Truly a beauty - and I'm another who was mesmerized by the clock(stare and get distracted only when not using the oven!)
That pull-out feature is cool - learning something new all the time...like your portable dw'r, too.

Looks just wonderful in your kitchen - congrats!
