I was walking home WITH 2 other friends, then these 2 guys come up and ask me for my iPod nano! They grabbed it and ran. Thank goodness that it was the only thing they took from me. The police are searching the neighbourhood now. I don't know why I can't stop crying though. I know that I'm safe but I can't keep thinking that I could have avoided it.

That's my little story for today.

Thats terrible...

What some people will do..

Don't feel bad about crying, i would be very upset and crying

I'm so sorry, that really sucks.

Someone told me Toronto's getting rough...

Do yourself a favor, though. Force yourself not to avoid the area that it happened in....don't allow the violation to continue in your mind, long after the iPod's gone from this planet.

I am very sorry this happened to you-

VERY sorry.

I am grateful that you were not injured.

Crying is entirely appropriate at times like these.

I'm sorry to hear that you went through that.

I'm putting a hex on them right now. They will have nothging but bad luck until that device is returned to you. :-)

DIRTY DAWGS!

omg!

Im glad to hear you okay, those mother fuckers you know im sick of when innocent hard working people minding there own business have something like this happen to them! but dont worry jonv112 like everyone says what comes around go's around keep your head up man.

What I find really alarming is that this took place north of the border where things are supposedly more civilized than this frontierland with the abused right to bear arms (although I do like to abuse my right to be in some big hairy bear arms and bare ones at that when given the chance). I sure hope it was a fluke, and that you're feeling better soon jon.

Ralph

Thanks everyone

The police just finished getting my statement. You know what? It may be a solvable crime! After they finished writing everything down they had an incident of 2 guys (similar description) trying to follow a kid home as well. It was maybe like 10 minutes before it happened to me and it was like right around the corner of my house. Nothing happened to the kid. The police may contact my friends and I to look at some yearbook pics from the nearby Catholic school. Honestly, there is NOTHING Catholic about that school. I'm feeling a lot better now.

Wow, that's just horrible...bastards. Hopefully it will be returned to you. Luckily, nothing like that ever happened to me, even though I would probably be the perfect target. One of the reasons I keep a 'blade' concealed in my truck at all times.

Once it is solved, though, they will be destined for bitchdom at the juvenile correctional facility.

I am so sorry to hear this!

keep on going remember it is VERY true What goes around comes around.. Things really do work that way. LOL

Have not been to Toronto since 2002. I do recall Toronto as a very clean modern city. I was very impressed. I can recall some weird looking guys that would offer to wash your car windows when you were stopped at traffic lights. You would then give them a tip for washing the windows. (If you didn't give them a tip, you may have gotten your ass kicked, don't know) Never saw anything else strange though. I stayed in a hotel right downtown, and was told that the city was safe to walk around anywhere. At all hours of the night. I did walk around at night quite a bit, and was never bothered.

I am so sorry that this had to happen to you! Sounds like this was a crime by a couple punk kids. I hope the police find them and they are punished.

Very sorry Jon

as someone else said: what goes around comes around, and well...some people just suck!
I was robbed at knifepoint when I was 18, something I will never forget.
We are all here for you!

It's too bad ipods can't be tracked the way cell phone are. Then you could find out where they lived and blow their house up. You'd feel much better. If the Brokeback Mountain Cowboys can cry, so can you, Buckeroo. Keep your chin up.

Jon, that's terrible!

I hope they catch them, and I'm very sorry that happened to you. I agree that you shouldn't avoid the area it happened in. The city belongs to the good people, not the criminals, don't let them have it! =)

Well the police wrote down the serial number from the box (Apple packaging is too nice to throw away). Even if they scratch it off it is still embedded in the software. Worst case scenario is if they sold it. If they are caught then they have to pay me the full retail price when it was new, and the price of the headphones, since I used the new redesigned headphone that came with my iPod video, and they broke that too while trying to grab my nano. Hope it all works for the best!

Jon

I agree with vintage. I've been around long enough to definitely know what comes around goes around! You have nothing to be ashamed about. Crying was the right thing to do. I'm just glad that you were not hurt.
Love from Wishwash

Wow, Jon. Just remember that karma will get them and repay you ten-fold in the long run. Being asaulted like that is very frightening and your reaction was perfectly justified. Don't let it get you down though, and don't be afraid - if we hide and cower from the evil in the world, it will surely win.

Take care - G

A lesson for all is that this time of year not only are the malls and streets packed with shoppers, but also criminals. It is easy for them to blend into the chaos of the activity and exit undetected. They have Christmas lists too, but with no money, they will steal. Don't take valuable things with you shopping like nice watches and rings, just the few credit cards you will need, not the whole wallet, and cash in a different pocket. Sorry this had to happen. I pods are hot commodities, and there are rings of gangs that have orders to get them. Crime sucks. I had an expensive watch ripped right off my wrist in a nice section of Miami during the New Years 2000 celebration. I went there the following year without a watch, cash in my front pocket and no wallet. Christmas is the most wonerful time of the year for thieves, too.

Well unfortunately Canada isn't the nice place of lore anymore and you're not really all that safe anywhere. It's not just the bigger cities either, someone gets mugged here at least once a week or more. Calgary has gotten awful with drive by shootings happening on a weekly basis predominently by Asian gangs. Even our strict gun control laws have had no effect because criminals don't register their guns.

Gosh, Jonathan,

I am sorry to hear that. These predators make life difficult. Go ahead and cry - it is a very good way to react. Better than going out and getting a gun and "getting even".
I'll keep me fingers crossed that the police get the jerks - and hope that they pursue the issue all the way.
I know it is no consolation right now, but a lot of folks have mentioned the "what goes around comes around".
I was at my 30 year high school reunion this last summer. Of the seven jerks in our graduation class, only one is left. The other six are all dead.
All.
Murdered, drunk drving accidents - they died as they lived.
Mother Nature is slow, but she gets her books balanced in the end.
Keep us up-to-date.

That happend to me

Easter Sunday 1980 in the Boston Common at dusk. I was walking with my friend when two puncks came up behind and annouced this was a stick up!
Gary was a fast sprinter so he flew to the open sidewalk and streetlights. I got pissed, really pissed and the Highlander reared its ugly head in me.
I wheeled around and lunged at one of them, they turned from black to white and froze. One had a switch blade and without me ever feeling it sliced my hand open. We all stood their for a moment they didn't expect a "drop" to turn on them as they were all of 15 or 16 and it was obvious very green at this.
But this was a very well planned stick up. As the three of us stood there, Out of the trees around me came 7 or 8 very large ,tall as me, black men and they just stood in a close circle around us and stared at me.
I reached in my pocket and said "take the f&*#king wallet" and threw it past their snotty little faces so they had to run after it.
They all took off laughing. It wasn't until I found a Policeman that he said to me you are bleeding and I looked down and the white bag I was carrying was red. I never felt the blade,-- really!
I should have run with Gary but I stood my ground and the game was well stacked against me. The officer told me that is how they work; send in the juveniles because they get out of the court system quicker when caught and use the adults as backup.

It was very upsetting but only long after it happend (6 months), which really threw me for a loop.
But when I realized how stacked the game was against me I realized there was not much I could have done at the time.
I know how they work now, and where they work which is something.
You probably will feel bad for a time even if these thugs are caught because you keep thinking that you were stupid and let yourself get mugged.
But you didn't and you weren't stupid! These types spend hours planning how to hit people, I am sure if I spent hours planning how to hit people I could do it too. Thats not my goal in life. And petty crime certainly doesn't get you someplace special ever!
So don't spend time beating yourself up over it they and the act aren't worth it.
They had this planned long before you showed up on the scene. And next time they will screw up and get caught. That is inevitable because these crimes are usually motivated by a need for drugs or alchohol not because they need money for Christmas presents.

They suck, but don't let it get to you. They'll get what's coming to them in one way or another.

We've had a rash of Christmas decoration slashing and stealing this year. Light strungs are being cut, large inflatable lawn ornaments are being stolen... it's terrible! Signs are pointing to some teenagers, and I'll bet they think they have nothing better to do. Wouldn't they think it sucked if someone took their gifts!!!

Ho F***ing Ho!
Chuck
