I have a bluing question

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Just imagine how white your wash was with BOTH Ajax and Fina

You're absolutely right, Launderess!

Funny thing that Ajax laundry detergent and Final Touch fabric softener came out about the same time in 1964...

Used to be a huge fan of LaFrance bleach....however, it wasn't as risky because it went in the wash water...Liquid bluing thank god, is something I don't really need to use since I have very soft water and my Ariel Oxy Azul makes the whites perfect every time. I have done the Liquid and although it is pretty to watch when rinsing it's a pain. As Laundress stated earlier though I have ended up with some pretty smurf blue briefs also...Luckily it washed out.

Cool everyone, thanks for all of the comments about bluing. Mom used Little Boy Blue which I beleive is no longer made? A friend and I where talking about laundry and he said that his mother used powdered bluing. LaFrance was it. Gary

"Even fabric softener was not immune from this craze; remember "Final Touch ...with bluing for extra whiteness"?"

I actually use Downy's "Whitening" variant and I think it helps.

Also, I have none of the streaking/spotting issues I'd occassionally have with liquid bluing...

I miss La France powder as well, and I do believe that the early 80s plain Cheer blue powder worked better on cotton button-down oxford and broadcloth business shirts than anything I've used since, even though I'm sure it was all P&G hype.

IIRC many fabric softeners today contain whitening agents/OBAs. Normally don't use FS, but on those rare occasions one does use Ecover's version. Nice scent and just the right amount of softness.

Speaking of "blue" detergents, just nabbed a case of the old "Biz" laundry bleach/pre-soak. Love the scent and was totally ticked of when Lever Bros sold off the brand and couldn't find the old formula anymore. If one had only known, since K-Sears had a shelf full of the stuff, but alas who knew?L.
