I think just the opposite. The thing you learned is you can cut corners and not pay the consequences. If you are going to be fixing or restoring anything, it is important to learn patience. Filling the machine with water befor the recommended cure time was not wise. If it didn't hold you would have ended up with a big mess that you would have to try to correct later. Believe me, removing dried silicone is not an easy or fun task. What was the hurry? You have many years to enjoy that machine after it has been fixed correctly. I understand your enthusiasm for the machine but, learning patience will save you much frustration in the future.
I have done the same thing, not waiting long enough for things to dry, etc, and paid for it with frustration.
Be patient, the most satisfying jobs are ones that take time and patience.
