I know these have been mentioned before, but where I just got another great buy on meat, I wanted to mention it again!

Boneless, center-cut pork chops, and boneless country-style ribs were $4.99/lb this week, buy a package and get two more free! If you get them all close to the same weight, it's like buying the meat for about $1.67/lb! So, yeah, I got 3 packs of each. Ended up with 9 of the chops for like $6.80, and something similar for the ribs. Vac-packed them, and they'll be good for months and months! I just udes some that I probably bought close to a year ago, and they were delish! Plus, I can open the pack and re-seal it after taking some out for a dinner!

Also last week, Price Chopper had an email coupon for Entenmann's mini chocolate chip cookies... $1 for the 12 oz. box. Vac-sealed and froze 'em! This week? Keebler 18oz. chocolate chip cookies... $1. They're frosty now too! Great for a get-together (we have to still try to schedule one of those this summer!!!!!).

Who else loves their vac savers???

Chuck

I use my vacuum sealer alot too, especially in late summer and into fall as I freeze fresh vegetables from the garden.
I dont use it on meat because mine comes wrapped in freezer paper straight from the packing house and it gets used quickly.

I didnt buy the food saver brand, I got the Kenmore Ultra Seal n Save, has the same multi-ply bags as food saver and performs just as well

I like my vacuum sealer. Love is a strong word... I love my vacuums and sewing machine and stand mixer :o)

I have the Rival-Seal-A-Meal version which is made by the same company as Food Saver (Jarden). I bought mine at Target for about 40 bucks about a year go. I got it to replace a TERRIBLE Deni that never worked right that I'd gotten from either Walgreens or Big Lots. I was just noticing too many foods with freezer burn on them. I learned quickly not to use the el cheapo bags and to actually buy the name brand rolls... and that for my purposes the 8 inch rolls are much better than the bigger size. The Great Value bags (which now seem to be discontinued at my local store and for good reason) leaked air and often failed to seal. I also have the marinator though I haven't been overly impressed with results for marinating, I also use it to store leftovers sometimes too!

Mine came with a hose, and some starter bags but looking back, I should have spent more and gotten the one with the bag storage and cutter built in. It would make my life a lot easier! I also wish it had a manual seal only button.

Anyone have the vintage Daisy seal a meals? Did they just seal, or did they suck too?

I have a Seal-A-Meal in storage in the garage. I used it a lot before the advent of the reusable plastic GladWare-type containers.

They didn't vacuum seal, just sealed. But it was a very handy way to seal portions of leftovers to freeze and eat later. Pre-microwave oven, you'd drop one in a saucepan of boiling water to heat. With the microwave, you'd just set one on a pie plate, cut a slit in the top and nuke it.

I haven't used mine for probably four or five years. The Ace Hardware store that carried the bags quit carrying them, and then GladWare came along, so I bought about 100 of those in various shapes/sizes.

I'm SO tempted by the vacuum sealer. Which brand is worth the $$ layout? I'd rather spend what I have to and have a machine I'm completely satisfied with.

Open to suggestions...

We have the Food Saver one we bought at Bj's for around $100 and it came with bags and rolls to make bags. I use it all the time when i stock up on chicken breast that were $1.49 a pound for boneless skinless breasts at Hilltop. I also use it to freeze basil from the garden and I have string beans that i froze from the garden.
I have the marinator as well that I do find that I use alot.

The latest Food Savers are pretty good. I recently replaced my 10 year old model with a new one, which is highly automated. Although it uses slightly more bag material to seal, the results are so superior to the old one that I have no complaint about that.

I got mine for $129 at Costco (159 with 30 off).

You can also order them online.
