You all know how much I love my Speed Queen AWN542 toploader, and how I am a big proponent of their products, so much so that I bought my mom the same set I bought. I bought my set in June of 2009, so my washer is just shy of four years old. Two weeks ago during agitation, I heard a schreeching noise. To make a long story short, an authourized SQ tech came out and replaced the drive pulley and belt. PS, now the machine makes the noise constantly during agitation, I called the service co., and they are coming back out, the tech heard the noise over the phone, not sure what it was he ordered parts. Sounds like it is the bearing or drive cam? I will let you know. the machine works, but the noise is terrible. I will keep you all posted.....
QUESTION,......it's still the best on the market??? right??? even though I spent $178.00 already, and am likely to spend more???
Disappointed in Connecticut...........

You have mine...

I had a service tech come out and check the sound my less than one month old SQ AFN50R was making. Its not getting any better and if anything I hear it more. I wouldnt be honest if I said I wasnt disappointed.

Now, if it turns out the problem isnt what the service tech came out for in the first place, do you have any recourse for the labor charges? Or the next call out would be free? We have to call these repair centers authorized by SQ, but I would feel so much better if it were an actual SQ repairman that came to my home. Im dreading if I have to have the main bearing replaced.

There is no charge for the tech to come out again, but of course there will be a charge for parts and labor.
Mike
PS I hope you get your problem solved quickly! I feel your pain, and understand your disappointment especially with the machine being brand spanking new.

Warranty

Speed Queen has a 3 year parts & labor for home machines. Read your warranty bond.
If you don't have one call Alliance they can get you a pdf. copy.

actually, if it is a major component, it will be covered, gearcase, motor, etc. but I will have to pay for the labor! The machine is out of it's regular warranty.

Repairable

At least you have invested in a machine that is repairable. Sounds like a gearcase replacement.

Thanks Malcolm,

I am just aggravated at how long it takes, and the financial strain it is going to put on me!! But it's like buying a Lexus, and getting a tune-up. You are not gonna get rid of the car just because it needs a belt and new spark plugs, it is just aggravating.

Technical Support

I know that when I had an issue with my Speed Queen dryer. The technician that came to service it didn't know much about it. After replacing the timer and the motor, I stepped in to assist and we found the broken wire in the wiring harness.

I have no idea what the training requirements are for the technical staff in the field. I suppose that it is not very difficult to become an authorized service depot.

That is the most frustrating part...............

The tech is a nice guy, and he knew to change the belt and drive pulley, but when he said we may have to call Speed Queen when I come out again, it made think, here we go again, a third visit, what if we can't get through to SQ, how much more is it gonna cost?. Interestingly enough, I called Alliance, and explained in Detail where the noise was coming from, and he told me that my brake assembly needs a little silicone?? We will see what happens, I will let you know. Listen a brand new SQ AWN542 costs upwards of $900 now!!! I paid $599 four years ago, so I guess I am still ahead of the game, right?

Alliance Phone Number

Hey Mike, would you share the phone number that you called? Did you call the number on the website? I called a Sales Rep for Alliance. I'd like to talk to their tech department about my machine. Thanks! :)

The number is...............................................

1 800 552 5475, ask for technical support, or you can e-mail them. I got this info off of their website. The tech is supposed to come out today for my machine, hopefully he can make it, we are getting killed again by freaking snow
