Thanks...

CircleW, so what would be a fair amount to offer. I'm wondering if the cleaning cycle works on the main oven since it's so
dirty looking.

For the Archives:

Here's a photo. This looks like mid '60s to me. It's built on the GE 40-inch frame first seen in 1957.

It's also a double-oven model, as seen by a look at the control panel, where you can find two sets of Oven Set and Oven Temp knobs, in addition to the four for the burners.

And it looks to be pank. At first I thought it was the lighting, but the more I look, the panker she gets.

This is a nicely-featured range. It has the double ovens, it has self-cleaning, and it has two large and two small burners. It does not have Sensi-Temp, the meat thermometer, the griddle or the rotisserie (unless it was set up to accept the rotisserie kit and one was installed).

So, it's a good range that has everything you really need, but does not have those more exotic features that depend on HTF parts.

@danemodsandy

It would suit me fine as I can live without all the bells and whistles you mentioned. It does indeed look pink, but if you look at the baseboard on the right that looks pink too so it's anybodies guess. Nobody on Staten Island is going to buy that stove, they all want stainless steel and granite YUCK! I think when the owner realizes he's not getting any offers he will take very little money or even list it for free in order to get it hauled out of his house.

I think the stove is white. The wood tones of the floor are reflecting off the sides of the stove making it look like it may be pank. But look at the stove top more carefully and you see white.

My first apartment in college had a coppertone near BOL 30" version of this. It was from the mid to late 1960s. On mine, the burner knob selections weren't variable/infinite, but notched to the 5 or 6 settings. I'd say it was close to 10 years old when I moved in. Was a good stove.

I want this stove

but as I said in a prior posting he's going to be sitting on the stove. Do you guys think $200.00 is fair? I have to explain to the better half how much I need this stove, and truth be told I do.

how much I need this stove, and truth be told I do

If my kitchen had the space for something like this, I'd already be seeking a stove such as this. As Sandy pointed out, this has all the significant functions of this type of range (including self-cleaning) but without all the extra bells and whistles that could fail or have failed and parts are very difficult to come by. It does what it's supposed to do, cook!! And is easy on the eyes. And is $200 worth it to YOU, then go for it!!!

I think it's white.  Check out the picture with doors open.  The top surface looks more white than pink, and even the oven cavities (at least the clean smaller one) appear to have soft pink lighting so I think the camera is responsible.  The close-ups of the panel controls also make the top appear more white than pink.

It could very well be that the seller honestly has no idea what to ask for this piece and just wants it gone.  You could make a lowball offer of maybe $100 and he'll either take it or be forced to counter.  Worth a shot to get the negotiations started.

I think $200 is fair if the self-cleaning feature works. If the clock and/or self-cleaning circuit is broken, I'd probably offer less -- maybe $150?

Of course, if it's love at first sight when you see it, then it's worth what you think it is! And, the clock and/or self-clean circuit can be repaired if necessary.

The Clock:

The clock is very easy to address, because GE sold its mechanical timer division off to General Time Repairs in Carroll, IA. GTR both services the timers (using new, factory parts), and provides an exchange service, where you pay for a new timer plus a deposit, then swap the new one out for your old, malfunctioning one. Afterwards, you send your old one back and they refund your deposit.

The second option is best, because you can remove wires from the old unit one by one, putting them onto the same position on the new timer as you go.

Average cost (not including the refundable deposit) is around $100.

Here's a link:

If the clocks used Telechron rotors, and I think there's a decent chance they did, they're often easy to revive and could save you the expense of buying a refurbished clock.

But let's not put the cart before the horse and jinx the whole thing.  Keep us posted on how this goes.

Yes, I'll keep you guys posted.....

If the self clean feature doesn't work it's of no use to me. I need a self cleaning oven because of sever asthma. I tried Easy Off Fume Free (fume free my butt). I staggered out to the patio to get some air. If push comes to shove there's an early to mid 80's 30" "coffee"colored Kenmore stove with a self cleaning oven. I would have to see if the self clean feature worked on that one also.

Vincent:

DO NOT let P*7 problems on the range hold you up.

First off, the timer is the usual reason "thuh seff-cleanin' don't work." For some strange reason, a lot of people don't put two and two together and figure out that a non-working clock/timer can hardly be expected to time a self-cleaning cycle. Their conception of it is, "Thuh clock part ain't workin', and the seff-cleanin' don't work neither." And as every upstanding mouth-breathing Amurkin knows, you kin do without the clock, 'cause hit don't really do nothin'.

Second, there are other things that can be wrong, but our own John combo52 knows how to deal with them, and has a huge stash of parts, both vintage used and NOS, to fix problems.

I would seriously, seriously not permit a non-functioning P*7 feature to dissuade me from this range. If it does not work, then by all means use that to help get the price down as far as possible, but let it work in your favor, not against it.

I've been thinking....

I know someone who owns a used appliance store. He would be able to pick it up and deliver it to me. He would also be able to fix the clock if needed. This stove has become an obsession of mine.
