I am a fan of old music from the 1950's and early 60's. The one song I enjoy is "Roses are Red" by Bobby Vinton, a local boy from Canonsburg, Pa. It was recorded in 1962 or 63 in a time when call and reply songs were popular. I wanted to know the name of the song and the female artist who sang and recorded the reply song to "roses are Red"

Any Help is much appreciated.

Michael,
Thank you so very much, that is exactly the song I was looking for, I have Roses are Red downloaded on my limewire and needed Long as the Rose is Red to complete the story.

Tom,
Thanks fort the link, I really enjoy the call and answer songs as well as the parodies that were popular at that time.
I forgot about the It's My Party and it's Response Judy's Turn To Cry.
Also some of the Parodies like Dead Man's Curve and Tell Laura I Love Her

There was one song I assume would fit that category I didn't see, it was about this boy who went on a date with a girl and gave her his lettermans sweater and when he went to see her again the father said that she has been dead for 1 or 2 years and it was the anniversary of her death, He went to the cemetary and his sweater was laying on her stone.Kind of an odd song but terribly sad, would also love to know the name of this song.

I see dead people

Going on one of our family vacations to Detroin, this song played constantly on the radio in the Chicago and Detroit area. Finally I found it on Youtube. Apparently it was more of a regional hit, and not played in the Phoenix area where I lived. As a little kid it just creeped the heck out of me...enjoy!

That would be "Strange Things Happen In This World" by Dickey Lee. Lordy...I remember that song well!

Well while we're at it are there any other songs from the 50's and early 60's that weren't as popular to list here?

There was one from the 50's I don't know if many have heard it is "I Understand" by the G Clefts, it was set to the melody of Auld Lang Syne. Anyone hear of this song or remember i, very hard to find, cant find to download anywhere.

Answer Song

Has anyone heard the answer song to Elvis' Are You Lonesome Tonight? I have a copy of the answer song which is titled Yes, I'm Lonesome Tonight. This song is sung by Dode Stevens. (Not sure of the spelling of her first name).

There actually was a answer song to Big Bad John I just can&

In the song Big Bad John they mention that he was from New Orleans and that his girl was a Cajun Queen......well In the answer song Big Bad John's Cajun Queen shows up and digs him out of the mine and revives him with a kiss....I heard this song last year on the Jim's Diner Show on the internet...he did a whole list of songs and then the answer songs that went with them. You still maybe able to listen to them.......PAT COFFEY

Another Answer Song

I heard this one on XM Radio awhile back and they play it occasionally on the 50s channel. Carole Kings answer to Neil Sedaka. Cute lyrics.

Oh Neil

That is a classic..."Oh Neil I would give up my years supply of Chewin Tobacci just to become Mrs. Neil Sadaki!" That is a classic line if ever I heard one LOL PAT COFFEY

They Just Keep on a-comin'

How about: "Dern Ya" by Teresa Brewer. That was the answer song to "Dang Me" by Roger Miller

Also, as to: "Yes, I'm Lonesome Tonight" by Dodie Stevens - yes, it's in my collection. (Frightening-!)

Hey X-Ray

Here is the song you mentioned. The name of it is Laurie: Strange Things Happen by Dickie Lee. He also sang a song entitled Patches as well. Lots of songs from that era now referred to as "Dead Teenagers" songs.
