I can see why....

....how long did you have to wait for an Apex? I was out due to some health issues, and I remember it was one of your holy grail machines.

Dammit, now I want a Unimatic!!!

Well, I have wanted a Unimatic (especially a WCI-58) since I first stumbled upon this website, but alas they don't grow on trees and I haven't got the funds necessary (yet) to buy one anyway.

Enjoy Robert, and keep sharing,
Dave

I know that the outlet pipes in US machines are bigger than the standard in the UK which would mean these machines drained faster due to the volume of water. Did they have really powerful pumps also cos that is a lot of water to shift in so short a time?

As a child we had a local launderette with Jetaction TL's in. I only went there a few times with my mother to wash blankets and curtains that her twin tub wouldn't accomodate but was fascinated by the machines. I would LOVE one of these. Tragic that they stopped making them.

Takes me back to my childhood watching my aunt's WO-65. Still just as fascinated with the brute power. Must have been an herculean motor to be able to shift from a wash, to a complete stall, ramp up to 1140 RPMs, and at the same time tossing a tub full of water. Most other washer motors would internally hemmorhage.

Holy Tub

Gosh, Robert, I've been haranguing you to post a video of the 49 Unimatic thinking it had the white perforated tub. I apologize for being such a pest now that I see it had the blue tub.

Mike that video is of a 1950 Frigidaire WO-65 Unimatic, I waited 13 years to find an Apex. Here is a link to that thread

Paul Unimatics have a really slow pump. The way it works is the water is thrown out of the perforations at the top of the tub under the rim into the porcelain outer cabinet. Since the cabinet floor is deep the water doesn't reach the bottom of the spinning wash tub so it can take its time in pumping out the water.

Kelly that's my 1950 Frigidaire, my 1947 Unimatic has the white double liner perforated tub.

My Mistake

Your picture has you standing next to the 47, so once again I suffered from an attack of the assumptions.

1947 Unimatic Video?

Robert--I never grow tired of collecting these classic washer demos, as I still have loads and loads of fun playing them back. Would you mind posting a video of your 1947 Unimatic? As always, I liked your 1950 Frigidaire, along with how many umpteen other washer clips I continually collect. Many thanks!--Laundry Shark

Yeah, and feeling the heat from the water as it's thrown onto the inside of the cabinets.

Take it from one Kenmore lover. Those Unimatics are epic in every way.

Is that 1140 rpm spin?

Sure is and its all done with its 1930s technology! No other top loader ever produced has yet to beat that speed of the early Frigidaires and GEs.

Robert

Is possible for you to email me some of those Unimatic pictures, drawings, exploded views and ads?

As my WO-65 Unimatic is going to arrive on the next hours, I will change all my laundry room's layout and I would love to have some posters on the wall.

If I'm not asking too much, can you post or email a copy of the owner's manual, if you have?

YouTube....

....okay....that explains it. They have youtube locked down tight here too....I was referring to Robert's pic with the Apex....the only thing I could see here at work. Sorry folks!
