For A Few Hundred Dollars More
You can often find used Miele rotary iron which is vastly better, IMHO.
Have had two Thor "GladIron" ironers in the past, and while they are great units for shirts and small items, doing flatwork any larger than a twin sized sheet or small table cloth is more effort than the results are worth.
Oh and these units do *NOT* ship well at all. If not packed/crated/braced properly the base will snap apart into bits.
The late Mike Arnold was the only person one knew who repaired this units. He did so on both of mine but each eventually died anyway. One problem is parts are NLA (Mr. Arnold used parts from the first dead ironer to rebuild the second), the other obviously is finding someone to do with work locally. Otherwise the thing has to be shipped and the above mentioned warnings apply.
Thor GladIron's claim to fame was that the padded roll was designed to fit inside shirt sleeves. This way one could iron that area without creases, which if up one's street have at it.
