I never thought I'd say this, but I own a Liberator.

Hi all. Picked up a lovely little piece of Purple history by Hotpoint! It's a wonderful machine and I'm thrilled with it!! It's great. The machine is pretty much mint, I'll clean the scuffs up at the bottom when I'm in the mood. Came with the manual too, mum says it's like a childs story book with the illustrations in it, they're great! I'll scan it when I've got a working scanner. Anyway, that's all I can really say about it as well as thanks to my dad for helping move it, mum & dad for letting me have it and to the previous owners, Cara and her mum. :-) Here go the pix!!

Great find Chris!

Although it's not a washer I am definitely head over heels for you! I prefer these early Hotpoint compacts to the New Generation ones and yours looks like new! Jealous indeed!

great dryer here, looks good 4 it's age too, this was introduced towards the end of the Liberator run in 1978, along with a rear vented version, before they were updated in the silver/white colour in 1979, as well as a Super Dryer model without the heat selector. It was updated once more in 1982 with white & almond coloured models and was replaced with the New Generation design for Christmas 1983.

So this dryer would have a date code from 06 (June 1978) to 17 (May 1979) so could be made within this period. Enjoy using it! :)

Excellent find Chris.

Seems that there has been a veritable flurry of people finding new old machines and all in such good condition.

The 1731 is certainly a cutie and looks in fine fettle.
Dates from the final Liberator range and was the first front venting compact from Hotpoint, the previous two compacts both being rear venting models.

Below is its rear venting stablemate, in the form of the 1721.

Now where is that 1824 Liberator, that was its match?

Paul
p.s try not to use the plastic door grab to open the door, as the plastic gets brittle with age and will snap off on you eventually, as has happened to our 1721 whilst under its previous ownership:-(

p.p.s and beware knocking off the plastic spike at the top of the indside of the door! Another weak point unfortunately.

Paul...

I know about that plastic spike, that's why the 17230 was scrapped. It's not a 1731, it's a 1730, not much difference between them tho.

Had to change the timer, did that with Phil when he came, I'll post the few pics in a wee while.

Chris.
