After a long absence I am back <evil grin>...I went at protest to see the above movie. It still amases me that this day in age there are people that think all gay people are the people depicted in parades, White Parties, etc....
This movie "verified" all stereotypes and all ugly phrases from "faggot" to "kike" under the auspices of "understanding and trying to make things better". Needless to say I watched until the end to see how low it got, and believe me it kept sinking. On a positive note, the negative religious zealots were not presented in a posttive light at all.

No desire to see the film for the reasons you (and most film critics) have mentioned. In addition to the offensive stereotypes, most critics have said that it's just not funny----hackneyed gags and jokes, bad script.

There are so few good movies out these days. Hairspray was an exception and I quite enjoyed it. For the most part,
I just stick to watching Turner Classic Movies. That was when
each star had their own unique style and movies also had
credible plots.

How disappointing. I guess I'll have to look at Kevin James elsewhere. And I hear there was a brief shower scene. Sigh.

petek, you are exactly right! There was plenty of the "potty" humor and frankly they perpetuated every stereotype imaginable. Ken and I kept looking at each other wondering when the ignorance would stop.

I do have to laugh, in one scene there was a "gay party". At this "party" everyone was dressed in the most outrageous regalia imaginable. (again perpetuating a stereotype) in the background of this "WhiteParty like" atmosphere, was music from Wham, Abba and other groups that the producer thought would "read gay" and to a simple croud. It was clearly placed in the movie for the comfortable, " see this is the way they are" effect for ignorant people. Now any movie producer worth his salt would realize that those parties would never play that type of music with the partiers they portrayed. *insert evil smirk*

PS Adam Sandler was the producer..ahem! Oh..by the way my typo on the header of this thread is realized...*yikes*

I wish it was Chuck & Jonathan in here

here was a nice thing that never happened ,all sad & lonly by the way Jonathan is the one on the left.

haven't seen it either

the sort of ignorance perpetuated by these kind of movies drives me mad! It is not just harmless fun, it breeds and reinforces harmful attitudes.

Here in Australia, an Iranian gay man applied for refugee status on the basis that he was gay and thus would be endangered if he was sent back to Iran's repressive regime. Sexuality persecution is a legitimate grounds for refugee status to be granted under Australian law. (although Australian law still discriminates against gays too.)

When he was interviewed by the Refugee Review Tribunal, he was asked, "what is your favourite Oscar Wilde novel?" and "do you prefer listening to Madonna or Kylie Minogue?" on the assumption that these were things of interest to gay men. His lawyer protested, saying that the man was an Iraqui, he didn't speak English and thus could hardly be expected to have an opinion on an English novelist's work. He also had never heard of either Madonna or Kylie Minogue. The panel rejected his application, saying that the man was clearly not gay as he knew nothing of "gay culture."
The thing that really angers and frightens me is, this man, with the help of Australian immigration lawyers, appealed right through to the High Court (The highest court of appeal for Federal matters) and the High Court upheld the Panel's decision, saying it was a legitimate line of questioning to test the man's claim that he was gay. So our nation's highest court, composed supposedly of our most experienced and learned judges, thinks that all gay men read and love Oscar Wilde and listen to Kylie Minogue and Madonna.

The poor man was deported. I shudder to think what has happened to him now. What a disgrace.

This is what happens when our media portrays a particular stereotype of gays and pretends it is representative.

Chris, your story is horrifying. America is still not overly gay friendly, either. I'd like to see a day when straight people get over thinking we have an "agenda".

I agree with Chris....if wanting the same rights as everyone else in the US is an agenda, then we do indeed have an agenda.

As a gay man, I can laugh at the gay stereotypes, because I know they are just that. But to perpetuate those on the big screen, to a still somewhat narrow minded public, only makes things worse. After all, how many straight folks show up during Gay Days at Disney?? Oh my God, someone might think I'm a fruit if I go!!

Sorry Chris, you're right, we do have an agenda. I had to leave the house quickly or I would have made some kind of clearer point. World, just treat us right.

This movie looked dreadfully bad and i would have to say tha

I was quite appaled to even see the previews for it on TV, for the little TV i watch. i do not know anyone that has seen it, not one person. It does propigate a stereo type of what somone thinks that a gay person is, for all of those people that laugh at fart jokes, and make out in their tree houses, i guess it has a market. I always tell myself that some good has to come out of it. Well, maybe not. It does not seem to be doing well here in this part of the country. We are pretty liberal here, and for that matter, very gay, at least in my neighborhood. As far as a stereo type, I have always thought of myself as my own person, an indiviual and my own stereo type. I have always been known for doing my own thing.thinking for myself, reading all of the time, staying informed, and collecting a few nice antiques, at my house we would call it an alarm clock, the telephone and my Mom's old Zenith clock radio from 1959., if that is gay, that makes me a big ole Queen :)
