Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

The person I talked to at the auction was wrong. It's not the Kenmore pair that was removed from the house. I don't think these were run in a long time. The pair that was working? How about........

The dryer is smooth and quiet and blows heat. The washer agitate & spun. The water valve hummed so it sounds like that was working. I can't believe I gave $5 each for these. I feel so ripped off & violated. NOT! My brother is 43 and has been working on appliances since he was 10 or so. He had his own used store at 14. Last night, he got to relive some childhood memories playing with the mercury switches on the Maytag washer. That's the fun thing about collecting. It's the past memories that are triggered by a smell, touch, sound, etc.

Here is the stove that we bought. The company was in business from 1847-1851. The fiundry was locted right where I am sitting right now. It burned down in 1873 & my building was then built on top of that location in that era.

Wow

The stove. In the back. Parlor stove, correct? My Grandpa used to sit behind one just like that in his long johns! You are right, the memories these things evoke are powerful.

This type of stove was for heating as well as cooking. I used to have one hooked up in my basement at home. We made steaks, bread, homemade pizzas as well as other things. When this type of stove debuted in America around 1765, it was considered the first cooking stove in "America." This got the ladies out of the open fire & into a closed containment fire cooking system. This type of stove was mainly produced in PA, with NJ, MD, & VA producing some as well. New England supposedly produced some of these, but I have never seen one.

westingman123, correct. That is a parlor stove. That partciular one was made at this very place as well by a later company that took over the foundry.

uh oh. Yep, that's one of the girls all right. I'm glad I woke up with all of the money still in my wallet. Down right rude those girls are.
