Hi this came into my work at St. Vinnies the other day and was set to be discarded simply because it is more than 30 years old, but it was Steve to the rescue, how many of my fellow Aussies (and anyone else for that matter) remember the brand Hecla.

Neat find..is Hecla or was Hecla a common brand name sometime back and does it say where it was made?

Especially for electric, ceramic jugs....

 

Mind, my keymatic owning aunt had a Hecla bar radiator too...

Hecla

when I was a kid we had a Hecla electric kettle.

It was a chrome steel body with a bakelite handle.

It was NOT automatic - it would boil dry if you left it, but if it boiled dry and overheated, a heat sensitive spring inside the element tube would release and shoot the plug out of the back of the kettle. Better hope it doesn't land in the sink...

The plug would still be live, of course, but at least the kettle would be shut off. When you re-fitted the plug after it cooled down, pushing the plug back in would press a plunger down to reset the spring. A simple, early attempt at boil dry protection.

It lasted for many years.

Thanks guys, Petek, yes Hecla was a pretty common brand here in Australia all those years ago (when I used to be young.),this mixer was made in Hong Kong.
From memory there were a couple of similar type brands around at that time apart from Hecla there was Hotpoint, (I think most famous for the vertical grill.), and Speedie.
These brands basically made the saem type of appliances, mixers, toasters, jugs kettles and bar radiator heaters as mentioned by both Gizmo and Ronhic.
Thanks again guys, I might have to use it on my day off on Monday and make up a cake, hhmmm I think there is a banana cake mix in the pantry too.

Well that caused a sharp intake of breath on the other side of the world when there are so many intesting and excellent baking threads on here. LOLOLOLOL

I dont think we had that brand here, nor that model although there is a resemblence to some Moulinex models. Whatever, its a lovely mixer and well done for rescuing it.
