I have a GE washer..I think I bought it new in 2003...I would like to be able to see it wash and spin..however it has some kind of swith that stops all motion when the lid is opened. Best I can tell it looks like some type of sensor is on the machine under the lid. Could someone tell me if it's possibe to disconnect the safty switch without hurting the machine. If there's away to disconnect the safty switch I promise I wont' put my hands and arms inside the machine while it's in operation. Thanks!!!!/mark:)

You need a magnet. Place it over the switch and it will override it! The magnet just has to have a little power ;)

I know what you mean,I like to see my washer wash too. that's why I miss the water fall filters on the old Kenmore and Whirlpools Good Luck to you. Bob.

...disconnect the safty switch without hurting the machine..

It's not a matter of hurting the machine... it's a matter of someone else possibly getting hurt if they are not cautious... IMHO.

It worked!!

Thanks for the magnet ideal...I used the magnetic strip off a bottle opener...it worked great!!! I had at least two hours of entertainment. I was a little disappointed that my machine does'nt have a water fall or a spray rinse..but at least I got watch it make suds. Thanks/m

Your 97' Amana has a switch that has to be actuated from behind the control panel. There is a little slot on the right side (looking at it from the front) right behind the control panel. You need a device like a "pocket screw driver" or an ice pick to press the switch lever inside. It's kinda hard to hold it while watching if the machine is not "out in the open".

Hey Pop, (I have two copies of that book by the way) thanks for the info. Leave it to this POS Amana to make it difficult for me to even enjoy its long stroke action (pun there for the taking).
