Hi guys, iam a new member from scotland, until a few days age I thought I was the only washer freak in the world, all my friends and family think I'm quite mad!!!

Am real interested in the front load washers, I know with energy star ratings in the USA they are becoming more common. I am interested in the older models though. The ones in Roberts collection with the rear control panels are very like the Bendix combo we had in the uk in the late 70's early 80's and would love to know more, wash capacity, spin speeds etc. Look forward to chatting.....PaulC

washers

Welcome abord Paul!Growing up,I was fortunate enough to have a Sears Lady Kenmore gas washer dryer combination. My great aunt in New Jersey had the Bendix Duamatic electric model from 1959.I have always prefered the front loaders but also was quite fond of the old FRIGIDAIRE up and down agitation their washers had for decades.

Front loaders

Hi there, am still gettin to grips with the USA models. In the Uk we have always favored front loading machines. How was the spin on the Westy? And I love the Bendix Duo from 1974 ( I think!!) with the front control panel in a pale green with "Double losd" around the porthole.

hey every one!!

Hoover keymatic has always been a bin of o mystery to me, could never work out if wash action was impellor or drum driven. What was the spin speed? And yes I do like Twintubs and also have a passion for vacuum cleaners as well!!

Hi Paul

The Keymatic used both pulsator (impeller) and drum drive. The gentle programmes used only the tumbling action, the vigorous programmes used both tumble and pulsator. The spin speed was 750 rpm.

Best Wishes

Chris.

thank you again!!!

thanx steve will check those things out, and thanx for info on keymatic chris. For its day that was a pretty high spin!! My auntys had indesit an d candy machines that didnt spin over 400rpm but they were fantastic to watch!!! They outlasted higher spin machines of there day due to the lack of stress on the internal workings.

Welcome, and then some

Paul- I know my family and friends think I'm a little "off balance" for my interest in appliances. Who cares, though? It's not drink or drugs or any number of worse habits.

I've been looking at the picture of the day for about a year now, and have just started participating this past September.

You might be the only one in your neighbourhood, but you aren't the only one in the world.

Thanx for the links every one. I have had great fun looking at them. I loved the pictures of the keymatic as well!!

If anyone knows of a link where i can find pictures of the late 70's indesit front loader with the control panel on the top I would be most grateful.
