Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

love the pale-yellow Frigidaires. and the GE range, previously mentioned, lovely. and the *sporty* flourish/pose by Mr Parker at curbside, love it!

Bendix Duo-Matic

I agree - that Bendix is very special. Hardly ever used and looks and works like new. Just like stepping back in time. What incredible engineering. As Greg explained - they held the patents that kept the others (including Maytag) out of the market. Imagine - no dryer venting. Jeff couldn't believe that the cold water ran the whole time during the dry cycle. Ah, the good old days when energy and water conservation were not an issue. Does that porthole look like a fabulous Chrysler steering wheel or what?

Still recovering

the Bendix

I think Fred liked that machine best, it certainly was beautiful. I'd never seen a combo, and what a beast the Bendix is. Beautifully styled, and built like a tank underneath!
Was kinda sad to watch the poor Maytag combo after the Bendix's smooth performance, it did ok for about 2/3 of its wash cycle, but the rinse spins were too much. It kept on trying though, like the little engine "I think I can I think I can..."

Still recovering here too, but not down from the high yet!

Sleeping giant of a washer...

I had warned them about the Maytag combo's danger of tantrum throwing when it goes off balance but we made through the first spin after wash and flush-rinse without incident so Fred and Jeff were probably lulled into false sense of security. But then, after the rinses, the yellow beast showed it's true personality - it tried to spin and jumped in the air, banged around, the door flew open and then, deprived of power, it quieted down. The next couple of off-balance tries were not as dramatic, it's a fun machine to watch - from a distance - nonetheless!

Don (jetaction) can testify to the lurchability of the Maytag combo as well, it took a jump at him one day last fall. He came upstairs, his face was as white as a clean sheet! He wouldn't go near it a couple of weeks ago when he was here again - scarred for life!

It's not a washer for the faint-of-heart!

The Maytag Combo..

Yes, Just as Greg was commenting on how well it was behaving, THUNK there it went, jumping off the floor!
Fred moved over closer to watch it regroup for another spin, and it jumped so violently that time that the door popped open!!
We stayed closeby while it washed, if only for closing the door that kept popping open...
Of course I did no better washing only two towels in the '58 Unimatic, it went off balance for both spins! I learned Frigidaires runn much better with full loads!

I have much to learn!
