Here are some pics of modern machines which are permanently plumbed in our laundry/garage. 

 

Must admit these machines have surpassed all my expectations and proven me so very wrong in that I considered them nothing but junk from when they first arrived. Predicted they would only last a short while before giving endless problems. They were not here for my entertainment, LOL.

 Been put through their paces, load after load, day after day, year after year... these machines recieved no sympathy from me other than filter checks and the occasional wipe down.

Which I suppose is more than what most machines get from their owners these day's anyway.

 

Guess they have grown on me, what else can I say?

First up

My trusty Daewoo 7.2 kg 

 Pushed this one to the limit and yet surprisingly has provided us with 2 years of excellent service and is still going strong. That's Daewoo for you!

and Bosch

This model is very basic with low spin speed. Can still hand wring water from towels after they come out albeit it washes very well and I do like the cycles. (Spin speeds are not that much considered with our warm climate) Door says 4.5kg but seems to hold more than average.

Defy Laundromaid

One should know better than to Defy a Laundromaid in LG clothing !   OR is it the other way around? Hmmm

Perhaps some info on the bosch? Would be nice to know why they made this particular model without the usual (brush type) motor. Instead uses start cap and reg. motor. What are the correct names to these motors I'm referring to?

That motor is a Squirrel cage induction motor. The advantages are that they are quiet, strong and as they only have a rotor, do not require armature & brush changes. Brush motors were introduced to allow for varying spin speeds, but induction motors are now electronically controlled.

lovely collection. i've used my aunts laundromaid a few times and i must say, they are INCREDIBLY reliable! and i agree, a defy auto dry can be wirth its weight in gold sometimes. i would love to get my hands on an auto dry premium though. i have the new samsung diamond drum 13 kg top load (metallic. it has more features than the white) and its also incredibly reliable. just over 1 year old and i have pushed but it just carries on going. i also have the new LG 8.2 kg top load and its also good. tangles a bit if i wash a full denim load but has good features and the turbo drum is quite nice to have. have a whirlpool heavy duty dryer (replaced the 14 year old KIC thats paddles started disintegrating) and a speed queen dryer probably about 20 years old but is awaiting a new timer. what bosch dryer do you have?

Docker, induction motors electronically controlled - you mean for top loaders?

 

Mathew, there seems to be a problem with my defy laundromaid in that with every small - medium load it bangs loudly on spin then stops with unbalnced code flashing. have since noticed, as it starts to spin, the pulsator rolls the the wet cloths to one side of the drum causing it to become unbalnced. However, with larger loads it can't do this as with the load being very heavy and the drum being full with no extra space it then spins fine, like it should.

Have no idea why its doing this.

o my. that is weird. how old is yours? my aunts is 3 years old and has never done that. i did see an ad once for a laundromaid which the owner claimed it was broken becusae he could only wash big loads because it "bundles" small loads. maybe yours is doing the same? i would just give Defy a call and find out waht could be the prblem or just send it in for a service. maybe something is loose causing the pulsator to do what it does.
but i have noticed that is quite hard to get parts for the previous laundromaid (the 13 kg with the green buttons) i bought 1 last year to have repaired and re-sell. the ownwer said it only needed a new pump. well thank goodness i didnt give him his full asking price because my repair man had to just about do a full overhaul on the machine. 8 months later and he is still looking for 1 part. he goes through to Defy almost every week to fight and complain. i thought he could just use the parts from the new model (like yours and my aunts) but obviosly not. have you had any bad experiences like this?

yes there is a prev version. where the delay, wash, rinse and spin buttons on yours are blue, mine are green. the panel is also alot darker. will try find you a pic because as i said, mine is still with my repair man. i cant believe you dont remember the prev version. very cool machine. and i'm sure defy will help you

Thank you for sharing pictures of your modern machines. I was wondering if you know what the spin speed is of the Bosch. Does it say on the specifications plate on the machine.

Your Laundromaid is probably very similar to my LG Turbodrum. If you could I would love to see a picture of the inside. Give us a money shot! lol

sorry to burst any bubbles, but personally i think that the laundromaid is nothing like the LG turbo drums. maybe they are the same as the over seas turbo drums. but lets have a money shot of your turbo drum too just to check

I would love to compare, not all LG toploaders have the three little turbo impellers in the larger impeller.

the laundromaid looks nothing like that. how do you like your turbo drum? i've got the 8.2 kg also the same size as a front loader and i quite like it

I like the Turbodrum so so. I like it because those machines are very rare here. What I don't like about it is the amount of water it uses compared to my frontloaders. I also think the wash results are not as good as with the frontloaders and the wear and tear is a bit higher. So, as an every day machine I wouldn't be very happy with it, but as part of my collection I appreciate it.

oh ok. well they very popular here. i use mine as an every day machine along with my samsung 13 kg diamond drum. i like the turbo drum for my whits because of the soak function. it just tangles if i fill it with denims
