...It's not a Radarange!

Okay gang, all this talk about vintage Radaranges has given me "the bug". I need one. One with lots o' chrome. And preferably multi-stage cooking capability, since I actually use that.

I've never seen one in person--not in the thrift stores, not at garage sales, nowhere. I don't know if they're rare around here or what.

So I need a little help. Where do you find them? Cory? You seem to have appliances follow you home like puppies!

Then, should I come face-to-face with the Genuine Article, what should I do to check it out? I'd hate to bring something into the house that might burn down the building, or make Mom glow in the dark (though at least then I wouldn't have to keep all those night lights burning!)

Thanking youall in advance for any help you provide. I can't get over the depth of knowledge amongst the membership here.

I'm hoping a Radarange will keep my occupied until I can find a range with an eye-level oven, since it doesn't look like that's going to happen in my lifetime!

Hot Spots

It really boils down to being at the right place at the right time. The same thing goes w/ appliances as well. I know I check the local thrift stores a couple times a week - a nice routine to keep me busy when I get off work. Cory and I check the recycler once a week and another 'source' before the Monday pickup for good appliances.

I got my RR9TA at a very scary flea market that most probably wouldn't go in. It was a perfect unit - a steal at ten dollars. I've gotten lucky and found not one, but TWO temp probes w/ candy makers, still in their boxes in the last few weeks. In the local swap sheet was an ad for a FREE Radarange. I called the ad; it was a one owner w/ receipts bought brand new, hardly used in 1984. It was a RR900 (same functions as a RR9T but a different case) which I plan to use in a garage when the time comes.

Eventually the routines start to pay off - and you find things you would never have imagined finding.

Thrift stores are your best bet. Usually they only sell working appliances. Just look at the overall condition, Knobs, Door gasket, and the plastic insidepart of the door, and the glass tray. You may also want to look for the Amana cookbook that came with them. Good luck Veggie!
