The Miele White Pearl stopped dead mid stroke. I took it to my favorite vacuum repair where its getting a new cordwinder, service and telescoping electric wand. It will be ready next week, $302.00 with tax. I asked about occasional black spots on laundry which later wash out in the Maytag 806 but never got a definitive answer. Visiting with Greg when in Omaha he felt the stem seal was gone and the fact I can't get the agitator off is typical when this happens. My Maytag guy who put a new motor in the dryer in June is replacing the transmission, seals and bearings using an orbital transmission. Part of the package includes a new agitator. $432.00 and a warrantee. The air in the Town car wasn't getting as cold as it should so it went in for a stem to stearn check. A magnetic control was calibrated incorrectly and after adjustment and coolant its cold. The only other issue they found was the serpentine belt, still original which needed replacement and a clean bill of health for it's 165,800 miles. Less than the washer, just $392.00 dollars.
When Kati drove her Kia to Ellensburg the weekend I returned from Kansas City the transmission went out. The transmission was replaced in January and had 11 returns to the dealership in 7 months with shifting issues, but Kia refused to cover it because it was 104 miles past the 12,000 mile warrantee. A friend who owns a dealership found a $2,200 transmission. We'll fix the Sorento and sell it while its running, book value is $7,000 to $9,000. I sent Kati home in the Lexus and the next weekend on the way to Seattle where I was in the hospital, the heater core ruptured just before she got to Seattle. Replacement core, transmission flush, heater control valve and new serpentine belt. $1,378.00
We've done our part to use up all the NLA stock we could find and fuel the economy skewing numbers of confidence based spending by US consumers.

Warrantee

2006 Kia Sorento purchased new in Seattle. Free oil change for life at the local Kia dealer. Moved to Kansas City in 2007, all required maintenance, only repair a power steering unit. Moved to Beaverton in 2012 and Kia of Beaverton was awful. Price gouging, repairs not done properly and surly service writer. After multiple shifting issues, replaced sensors and wiring harness issues the transmission was replaced when the car was under warrantee with 98,000 miles. Never since did the car shift right and it was in 11 times on Kati's dime and time replacing this and that. The new transmission was warranted for 12 months or 12,000 miles. She was 104 over the 1,200. Kia refused any support and gave 24 hours to tow it off Hahn Kia lot in Yakima or they would charge $128.00 storage fee. We were all in awe of the car and thought of buying one until Beaverton Kia entered the picture. one issue is that it is not a unitized transmission but a grouping of sensors and relays assembled one at a time. It also would seem the Sorento tanks quickly after 100,000 miles. I spoke with Kia regarding practices and pricing at the Beaverton dealership. A sensor they wanted $722.00 for in Beaverton was $132.00 in Tacoma. Kia said they have no corporate pricing structure and each indepently owned Kia franchisee can charge anything they want.

Well maybe its a bit of a drift ...

But I had bought a 2011 VW Euro Passat TSI with DSG gearbox, and I have been having a lot of trouble with it. I had the car for about 3 months and then I started to notice that when going uphill and the car had to down shift there was a shudder. So I tool the car back to the dealership, they started with sofware updates, but to no avail. The shudder only became worse, eventually they decided to change the clutch system of the car, take into account it only had about 25 000 kilommetres on the clock. A year later at 54 000 kilometres another clutch had to be put in as the car had again started acting up again. I am so dissapointed at VW, next year the car will be out of its warranty and then I am on my own, I only have the motorplan/highway plan left. I had written a letter to VW of South Africa They just replied stating they never have had any issues with this type of gearbox and they cannot extend the warranty.

It seems that in this day and age if you have given your money to this huge intercontinental multinational corporate mother!@#$%s they will take it and run with it. I also noted that Laundress had problems with a courier company, they just wash their hands and you are left with the problems.

And trying to take this corporates on is really not worth it, they will have you tangled up in litigation for years so much so that you wont have a dollar or rand here to wipe your bum!

I think a lot of people can agree with me on this issue and would like to hear from all other disgruntled customers.

Cheers all

I had..

A 2003 Sonata, that I loved the best of anything I ever owned.."newer cars that is", but it had an AC recall at 60000, the dealer screwed it up and I too had 11 returns over the last 2 years I owned it, and had no ac when I traded it.but I cant blame the car, other than that it was absolutely trouble free, 145000 miles and nothing more than 1 brake job, great car.

You need to do some internet research on VW and their DSG gearbox issues. Start with Australian websites as the recall here has only just occurred. Depending on the engine and gearbox combination, they are not renown for their reliability.

Don't give up.

Hound them. Get on VW forums in SA, Australia, Europe - anywhere you can find information that supports your claim and very firmly insist that the car be fixed at their expense. Should they continue to refuse, start writing to your local member, consumer organisations and motoring organisations. Be polite, but very firm. Back up what you say with the evidence you glean from the internet....

VW is not exactly playing fair with these issues and denied there were problems here too until a person regrettably died (in a manual diesel Golf) that caused them to be in the press for weeks. Suddenly, there is a recall.

Thank you..

Very much for your support I have started to do some research on the net and found that there was a massive recall done in China aprox 380 000 Dsg Gearboxes, at first they would not do it but the Chinese government forced the to do it, and they had fix they gearboxes and extend the warranty up to 10 years.

I had already written letters to VWSA but apparently the cars here was not affected. That is utter B/S!! Obviously there must be something wrong with the gearbox, because like I said the car only has 55 000 km on the clock and it's now at it's third set of clutches!!!

VW has fed me some crap about it is our roads, speed bumps all kinds of crap!! I live in a golfing estate and unfortunately there are a lot of speed bumps but surely the car should be able to handle that. I did send a letter to our local CAR magazine in hopes that they will help me get some leverage and is currently contemplating going to our local retail motor industry.

All I want them to do is extend the warranty, if the gearbox is so fantastic then there won't be a problem extending the warranty?

Lets hope I will get somewhere.

Thanks for the advice.

Regards

Wow!

So much going on at the same time, along with everything else on your plate!

Amazing that you're able to keep such a positive perspective and motivation to get it all done.  But then if anyone can, you can!

Best of wishes with everything!

Internet Heaven

I'm sure you've heard me complain about the awful service Hughes Net provided for $114.95 a month. Being so remote it was our only option. Dish network has just rolled out it's own system and bundled with premium TV, I have amazing internet service and it's $89.00 a month for both TV and internet. After weeks of a Kindle Fire, which I'm grateful to have it feels like sitting behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler to be on the Desk Top working like a streak of lightening once again.

Changes

During my time in Seattle I spent one night at my ex-wife's in our old condo. Its totally changed, all new furniture, paint and décor. I was surprised to walk in the kitchen and see the Amana bottom freezer gone, replaced by a BOL Frigidaire. She said the old fridge was making a noise so she bought the new one and didn't think she needed anything fancy. Then she said the first one failed and this is the second and its acting up as well. We had a nice dinner and as she loaded the dishwasher I noticed the GE we bought in 2003 was gone and replaced with a Kitchenaid. She said she tried to put a platter in the dishwasher that was too tall and broke the upper arm. She decided to replace it rather than repair it. I asked her how she liked the Kitchenaid. She said it didn't clean very well but it was easier to load since it was a tall tub. The Atlantis pair, still silently whooshing away washing for the Mike and Sara and the 3 girls while I was in the hospital.

Blazing Speed

Our house is separated from all support service by it's distance. I have had a viscous time trying to find reliable web service and after paying Hughes Net $114.95 a month for the poorest service in the world, I left. I used my T-Mobile phone and a wireless modem to run the Kindle Fire and the Desktop which added about $30.00 a month and didn't win blinding speed awards. I saw an advertisement for Dish Network and bundled satellite service. I ordered the new services while in Missouri and they were waiting when I got home. Family Favorites 200 channel line with HD internet bundle and provided by Dish Network. I realize we're in the honeymoon stage but it works flawlessly. Peter can finally work from home after these many years and I can have full use or the desktop to over punctuate and create run on sentences use too many ands. I am most excited about Peter spending unlimited time here at Hidden Acres.
