I just posted an early WCI-Frigidaire washer service manual. This is probably the first or second manual produced to fix Westinghouse made Frigidaire top-loaders after the big change over. There was also a Franklin made washer, model WJ, that is included in the manual at the end.

I'm ducking for even thinking of posting such a thing LOL!

I need help for Lady Kenmore apartment sized wringer/washer

A brand new here.
B can't see how to start a new thread
C My "jewel" a mint 1950s 3/4 or 1/2 sized Lady Kenmore in mint condition complete with manual is stolen. She is round with 4 legs...small size huge heart!

D Cops say it is so unique even without seriel numbers etc. they maybe able to track her down. I lost $000 to this druggie/scraper and this is the one item that is a part of my heart and I need pictures. PLEASE HELP ME post, start a thread, find some pics of this unqiue old girl still in showroom condition to fit in the back of my Crosely Pick Up Truck for parades and grandkids bragging rights.

THANKS!

Pish! How COOL!

Thank you SO much for scanning this, Robert, it's gold. We've run into some hellacious issues on these machines (surprise, right?) and we've never had doctrine to help us through it.

The seals are generally biggies, although other stuff can go wrong in the tranny. I'm guessing the parts are long NLA, but how cool to see what's going on inside there! I had thought at first that WCI would have been like, "Transmission problem? Swap it out! (Good luck with those tub bolts, btw.)"

Nice to see they dive in. Great resource! Lots of good pointers, too. Thank you again!

Nice to also see I've owned an example of both designs (and prefer the Westinghouse clone).

Frigiscare!

Actually I was going to purchase thinking it was the last GM service manual. I am thankful I reread the description so I made a better decision!

It's an evolutionary hobby

I remember waltzing with Roger and Ross through stores, and we'd ignore machines because they were passe at the time. (Rim-Flo Hotpoints, for instance.) Or these. I bought the Fraudgidaire 1-18 to put next to my GM Frigidaire 1-18 as a joke at one of our wash-ins. It would have been funnier if the cabinet wasn't only three-quarters as deep as the true GM's, making the side-by-side comparo akin to identical twins where one was five-eight and one was six-three.

I'm not saying these machines are any great shakes, particularly clothed in a patina of perceived betrayal :-), but with modern offerings, even this stuff looks pretty good. And on the plus side, a lot of the WCI stuff seemed to be divided into two categories--it died off the starting line, or it survived all the run-in pains and ran for a looooong time.

Now, bear in mind that, should anything actually require repairing, taking these machines apart is a fresh hell; they used incompatible metals for the tub bolts and hubs, and glued the hoses onto the pump ports and fittings. In all honesty, unless you find one unused and NIB, if you need to do more than remove the agitator on these or put in a new water valve, you have to use the special WCI tool below, which allows you to relocate it to the curb. ;-)

Or this method as an alternate if you don't want to disturb the cat but you risk it coming back to haunt you as yet another Frigidaire product...

Nice one Ken but...

You forgot to share the picture of the WCI Frigidaire engineers hard at work planning the next 'easy to repair' washer design...

Remember Robert, you opened the bottle and let out the genie first...

I take issue with that...

Actually, Dave, the techs weren't like that. They were good people who were saddled with the task of trying to repair machines that were very troublesome to work on/with because the designs could have been better thought out. My private theory is that the people who design them aren't the ones who have to fix them so you see things like making it so that you have to remove the transmission to change the tub light. Besides, I'm MUCH better looking than Curly and much thinner now. I also fix machines that are a little easier to get into... LOL!

Ohhh, I bet I just set John off with that...

Not to support the lynching of WCI engineering, but REPLY #15 - laughing my a** off. LOL!

It reminded me of an ad, that wasn't appliance related, but you could say, a tea kettle ... in the golden age of tv (Detroit area). Now, I'm not saying these are the WCI guys after work...at happy hour.

This manual explains:

How to make a working washer out of a pile of S#IT!. I can think of 2 that were as bad though. D&M DWs and Auto-Chlor DWs. Not a damn thing good to say about either. I think the AC machines were designed in a bar near closing time AT BEST!
The D&M junk is the domestic equivalent. Just my Professional opinion. Take it for what you will.

Applause!!

Thank you Robert for posting these.  Even though these were really s--tty machines,  it's always interesting to read the technical side of it,  just to see how the engineers/designers were thinking (in this case obviously delusional)  :)

I think our library here can only benefit from the inclusion of all service literature, regardless of how each of us individually feels about a particular brand, design, features, etc.    I for one would love to see more "controversial" reading materials!

Thanks again!

It appears that the shredder was chopping up a DD WP-KN washer instead of a WCI one.Another WCI "punishment" would be take them to the shooting range!I have an AR-15 I would like to try-A WCI target would be nice to try it out on!Liked that Monkey "band"in the Ovrphil link-reminds me of the "Bimbo Box" jukebox! The Bimbo Box jukebox had an automated monkey "band" inside it that "played" while the music played-that Jukebox was made in Germany and played from a tape loop instaed of a record.

My Aunt had one for years and worked just fine and my best friend has one now that also works just fine.

It's rough on clothes but both machines are over 15 years old and still working unlike so many new machines today..

The appliance guy down the road has one of those 70s or 80s Frigidaire combo washer and dryer..

They do wash well from what I have seen.

WCI: Enjoyed having both the '87 and '06 Frigidaire top-loaders for their indexing tubs; the '87, especially, because it still had a spin-drain and the circle spray fill carried over from 1-18s.

However...WCI can never be forgiven for ending Frigidaire's unique pulsating agitation. And for cheapening/debasing every brand it touched. And probably for other things that escape me at the moment.
