I just went down to the basement to start some laundry and the basement smelled more wet the usual. When I walked into the first room water was running across the floor and into the floor drain in the laundry room. The electric water heater tank and sprung a leak. That water heater is for the kitchen sink upstairs, and sink in the basement that I don't use. No hot water in the kitchen for awhile. Glad I ran the dishwasher yesterday. Called the landlord, maintenance man is supposed to be here sometime today. I hope they don't replace it, and just run a line from the gas water heater instead, then maybe the electric bill will go down some.

What a pita a leak is. Is there another HWH for the baths? Gas? / Electric?

IMHO since there ia alreeady an electric hook-iup there, they won't be converitng it to gas--piping and lobor is expensive.

Sounds like there may be another HWH for your unit on premises..surprises me they haven't tapped into that one.

We have two water heaters, one gas and one electric. The electric one is for the kitchen sink and basement sink. The gas water heater is for the two bathrooms and the laundry room.

I would be a pain to run a line from the gas water heater to the kitchen since the room that the line will have to go through has tiled ceiling.

This is the first house I've ever lived in that had two water heaters.
