Greeetings, all!

I just found this site. What fun! I've always had a fascination with major appliances, and it's great to see so many who collect them.

A question, if I may. I've been marveling over some of the restoration photos, and wonder ow you are able to restore the backsplashes and odd plastic parts. Paint I understand, plating of chrome and replacement of mechanicals, but how do you get the control panels to look new again?

Thanks!

Re: Hi! Sparky:

Welcome to the wonderful Appliance Club. I'm not really able to answer your question, but I wanted to welcome you. I'm in the Sacramento, CA area and I've heard of Yorba Linda before, but I'm not sure as to what part of the State your located, maybe a little detail?

I've had some Friends in the past whos last name was Sparks and we called them Sparky, is this as with Sparky for you too?

Enjoy the Site, ask lots of Questions as necessary and if you have any size of a Collection, of even other interesting items, please share them as well, but be sure to check the Posting area for the proper Postings.

Peace and Fun Times, Steve

Welcome.......

As for your resto question on plastics, there are various plastic polishes available. These polishes are mainly used by 60's muscle car buffs to use on dashboard dial lenses as they were prone to fading and scratching over the years. These polishes contain very fine abrasives and are perfect for plastic work. Just look online and you'll get a thousand answers as to which polish will work best for you. As for detailing lettering and numbering on your plastics, you need a steady artist's hand and alot of patience. A permanent fine black marker works good for lettering and numbers. Practice doing this type of detailing on a non important item first so you get the hang of it. There are also paint markers available at hobby stores too. Remember the golden rule to restoration: IF IT AINT BROKE,DON'T FIX IT!

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm "Sparky" because I'm an electrician, although back when I first got married (the Earth was still cooling) I did supplement my income by repairing/selling washers and dryers in my garage. I suppose that's where my interest in these machines comes from - I always made sure all of the lights worked before I sold 'em...

Yorba Linda is in the southern part of the state, not far from Anaheim - where Disneyland is. About the only claim that YL might have to fame is that the Nixon library is located here.

Is there any process available for re-"chroming" plastic pieces where the "chrome" is peeling off?

Welcome Sparky

I'm from Palm Springs and pass thought YL all the time to see a friend in Westminster. I am no electrician as i once hooked up all the wires in my Hoover model 62 together and wondered why all the power in the house went out. Ugh!
