Is it possible to use a different 'drive belt' or 'pulley' that may be able to increase the spinning speed of the Maytag Atlantis washer? I don't know if you're able to install the Maytag/Amana transmission into an Atlantis.

It is possible to increase the spin speed of 1998 Frigilux frontloaders by moving a jumper. But it is inadvisable. At the higher spin speed you might save a dollar a month running the dryer. But at the higher mechanical strain, the whole $900 product may go to the landfill because the repair from a broken spider costs half the replacement.

Personally, I don't think an Atlantis machine can withstand the structural stresses placed on the machine with these increased spin speeds.  And I doubt you can install an Amanatag transmission in an Atlantis because the Atlantis has more of the "Herrin" (Norge) tradition and influence in it than Amana.

Amanatag motor pulley...

Unfortunately not. The Herrin motor pulley is nylon plastic and clips onto the end of the motor while the Amana pulley is sandwiched between the pump and motor body. In fact, I think it comes pre-attached to the motor shaft... One thing I always wanted to do is try to custom mount the drive motor and related electronics from a Neptune TL onto the Herrin chassis and let the spin rip. I'd film it of course as the Herrin would have no chance of holding together during a 1100+ rpm spin but dang that would be funny as heck!

Thanks guys, I thought about the structure stress from the higher spin speeds and figured heavier springs with larger coils. Hey Drew, I was thinking about the transmission 'agitate/spin' pulley.

IMHO You Ar e Better Off Leaving The Washer Alone

And purchasing a stand alone spin dryer.

The extra 100 rpms probably isn't going to make that huge of a difference in extraction versus the time and energy in the changes you propose. OTHO the >3,000rpms of a spin dryer most certainly squeeze almost every drop of water out of your laundry! *LOL*

Going "poo" on creativity again...

Sorry. The size or diameter of the motor and trans shafts are different plus the pulley wouldn't fit as the lip on the base frame would prevent it. Interesting idea, tho... I also remember that the motor shaft is splined while the trans shaft is not. I know. I'm just mr. Helpful...

LOL, that sucks, I want an Atlantis but, hoped to be able to increase the spin speeds and swap the 3.2 cu ft stainless steel tub for a 3.3 cu ft tub...is that possible? And, you certainly are Drew:)

your best option is as Laundress has addressed.....purchase a spinner, and the you won't have to worry about any machine you get as to spin speed, or the hassle and expense of locating and changing parts.....seems to be the cheapest alternative in the long run.....

I was thinking of getting one, but then remembered I have 3 TwinTubs, with high rpm spin speeds, and they remove a substantial amount of water from any load out of a regular TL machine.....

you could look into a TT as well, a new toy to play with, and a spinner to boot!

Increasing Spin Speeds

The AmanaTags can be increased by using the appropriate transmission pulley and drive belt. I was never aware of any parts that will increase the SS of the NorgeTags.

It would be very unlikely that slightly [ 10-20% ] increasing SS would cause any additional wear on bearings etc such as on the Frigidaire FL washers going from 900 to 1000 RPMs. One would have th calculate the savings based with actual tests, but if using an electric dryer and doing at least a few heavy loads per week it would likely save more than a $1 per month.

Andy i remember WP engineers telling us around the time that the Calypsos were being introduced that they had experimented with making WP DD washers spin at over 1000 RPMs and the machines literately self destructed. So if you are going to make a NorgeTag spin this fast please be careful as we wouldn't want you be be injured or killed by a piece of flying plastic, LOL.

Two weeks ago I picked up a 6 month old Samsung TL washer on the scrap pile at our appliance distributor and thought this would be fun to put a plastic covered mattress pad in at our next wash-in and watch the machine self-destruct. This new and improved SS even had a warning label under the lid warning you not to ever wash such items in this washer. [ Interestingly this Samsung is entirely made in China, I guess that even S Korean labor is too expensive or they may have just finely figured that if they were continue making POS washers they may as well just get the Chinese to do it, LOL. ]

But the cheap SS washer only had a broken plastic bracket that held the water pump in place and the pump literally fell partly out and broke one of the wire terminals of the harness wiring. { the water pump assemblies are on a 3 month national back order, that's why the customer trashed the machine rather than fight with them any longer ] But Jason came to the rescue and made some metal brackets and reinstalled the pump and it now works properly, so in the interest of the environment I will send it to the nonprofit resale building supply that we help out and let them make some money with it.

Whirlpool DD 640 RPM to 1000 RPMs is a big increase but, 620 RPM to 710 RPMs...it's just 90 RPMs more. Like...I'd also want to swap out and install the Maytag/Performa 3.3 cu ft stainless steel tub in a Atlantis, (only uses 3.2 cu ft tubs)...would that be possible guys?
