There is a POD of an overly elaborate control panel for a Wards dryer. These were made by Westinghouse and were made in two sizes. The smaller of the two was based on the first Spacemate design. The washer and dryer were rated at an 8 pound capacity, I think and the washer had 3 vanes in the tub so it was not Philco. I don't know anything about the larger size machine. Maybe they were the prototype for the straight front WH machines introduced in 63 or 64. Wards used to sell Westinghouse washers under the Signature brand. They had a Combo based on the first Westinghouse Wash'n Dry Laundromat with the two red dials long after the WH combo had updated styling. Westinghouse also sold the Spacemate washer as a portable washer with a straight front and a drop down door.
These were the machines I saw in the funny store in Florida where we stopped to buy my spinning reel & fiberglass rod for salt water fishing. It must have been 1960 because my sister had not yet been born and she arrived in February, 1961. Since it was my present, I more or less had to stay close by, but I could see these weird straight front tumbler machines with wild control panels up the aisle and was only able to run up and get a glimpse of them before being called back and told that we had to leave. It was only seeing pictures of these machines later that identified the store as Wards for me. We did not have them in Georgia so it was the only time I was in one until 1976.
