For a very good reason. They have been associated with Whirlpool since becoming a licensee of their predecessor, 1900 Corporation, in 1946. Later Whirlpool acquired full ownership of Inglis.

It’s really amazing to see what used to go into a refrigerator, whirlpool was one of the last to have the all porcelain liner. They also assemble the entire refrigeration. System is shown and tested it for leaks before it was installed in the refrigerator and the entire refrigeration system can be taken out of a whirlpool refrigerator Without breaking the system open.

Whirlpool continue to build the all porcelain liner refrigerators up until about 19:90 in the later machines it was sold under the KitchenAid name my KitchenAid refrigerator in freezer from 1987 have never required any repair whatsoever other than a lightbulb in the refrigerator, lightbulbs have now been replaced with LEDs

My pair of KitchenAid’s even have porcelain on steel crisper still, and even the grills below them our metal.

You can really see the advantage in the terms of building a refrigerator of using the one piece molded plastic liner, and the foam insulation today not only insulates better but it’s lots cheaper to build still, you have to respect these older refrigerators, and all the work that went into them.

I like a porcelain enamel liner better than plastic, as it doesn't absorb odors. My 1997 Amana still smells like pickle juice after it was spilled back around 2006. I've cleaned it numerous times, and tried all sorts of ways to eliminate it, but nothing seems to work.

Depends on if the spill got into seams or shelf edges. Use a vinegar/baking soda solution. Or put baking soda in a sachet type thing in your fridge.

What wasn't clear to me from this film is if the fridge was their own design, and the (obvious) WP ice maker was licensed, or if this was entirely a WP effort. At the time, Inglis also had contracts with RCA, Simpson and others. Dehumidifiers would be built in that same facility a couple years later.
