For a few centuries, women were treated for “hysteria” – even at the Kellogg Sanitarium. One of the treatments was the pelvic massage, which led to the invention of the modern vibrator. The diagnosis has since been removed from the DSM. Anyway, I thought that surely there must also have been asylums for the treatment of nymphomania. I am working on an exhibit of the changes in the treatment of nymphomania after the invention of electricity. Not unlike ‘turn of the century’ chiropractic medicine. A Tom Robbins character said that psychotherapy has reached the place in its development that surgery was at when practiced by barbers.

But now I am really, really worried about you.

The most notorious serial killer our city had ever seen was BTK. He operated from 1974 until the early 90’s then just quit. When he resurfaced in 2004 he started taunting the police by sending them Barbie dolls of his various crimes.

BTK, now know as Dennis Rader, or “Denny the Dog Catcher” is now serving 10 consecutive life sentences in El Dorado State Prison.

Oh yeah, and for the record, the "Orgasmatron" comes from the Woody Allen movie Sleeper and was a cylinder in which a couple stood while taking (actually receiving) pleasure. The machine invented by Dr. Durand Durand in Barbella was called the "Excessive Machine."

Here is a pic of the NymphoRay during operation. Just so no one is mislead, there is little documentation of the efficacy of these treatments and it is largely felt that they did not help and, in some cases, made the condition more acute.

Okay, so I typed John Waters in google and the first words I saw, introducing the link, were: John Waters was not like other children.

You know the notion of house, barn and field of corn? Where I grew up (in the 50's/60's) a former farm was a house, bodyshop and field of salvage. Lot's of great junk - and virtually no playmates (unless you count the guys repairing cars and pulling parts).
