Interesting Farberware Electric Skillet

I was skulking around the Goodwill during my lunch hour today, and saw an interesting Farberware skillet. Instead of a long handle on one side, it had two small handles on either side, and was held up by a round chrome stand.

I should have bought it, but I had the company car, and didn't want to look like I was spending company time thrift shopping (again, it was my lunch, but appearance is everything ;-). Also, it didn't have a thermostatic control, and was quite black around the bottom of it, and would have needed a lot of cleaning.

Did I pass up something rare or cool? Is the control readily available?

Hello Dan!! Did it have the high dome cover? If it's missing the cover and control, you can find something more complete and probably cleaner with a little searaching. That is the 12" buffet server style skillet. I have taken mine filled with sweet & sour meatballs to many parties. I won't go into what it makes the rest of the serving containers look like, but it does put the "R" in Regina (soft "G" long "i"). Customers wanting an electric broom used to get flustered at that pronunciation.

It is a very good electric skillet with the heavy aluminum clad base giving very even heat distribution like all Farberware with that construction.

Oven cleaner will remove the baked on grease. Protect the Bakelite handles. After that, something acidic like Bar Keeper's Friend will brighten the aluminum. The chrome base is easily removed to allow you total access to scrub the pan's bottom clean.

The heat probe will be the older style with the rounded front. You can tell that by the design of the pan's female parts. These appear on eBay from time to time. Farber worked with Presto to develop the removable heat control so that the appliances could be completely immersed.

Yeah, that's exactly it, Gary. I like the smaller handles.

Maybe I'll go back tomorrow and see if it's still there.

Re; Using a Company Vehicle:

Hi! Dan "dalangdon" if you were on your Lunch Break and went to the Thrift Store and saw something you wanted to get, in case it might get Sold after you left the Thrift Store. I would think that it you drive your own Vehicle to work you would be able to park next to your Vehicle and place the item{s} in the Trunk of your Vehicle, without anyone from your Office seeing you?

It is just a suggestion, now for a next time that you were to go Thrift Shopping again on a Work Lunch Time.

I found the exact same frying pan at a yard sale last year for $1. Needless to say, I snapped it up and have been using it ever since.

Good quality pan and very easy to cook with.

D'oh!

I went back today, and it was gone! Who'd a thunk anyone would want a ratty old electric skillet that was missing it's power control? Oh well, I suppose it wasn't meant to be.

But I will be on the lookout for the future. After all, sometimes the hunt it much more interesting than the kill. ;-)
