Sort of like what happened when Packard & Studebaker merged
As I recall, once Wedgewood and Western Holly merged, the quality really started to decline, although as with most "modern" gas ranges, the decline started earlier. I was surprised to see the cast iron burners on this range since many models had gone to all-aluminum ones which warped and were a mess if you got caustic oven cleaner on them like Easy Off. Having cleaned many tank-like ranges for resale like Wedgewood and Okeefe & Merritt, I always thought newer gas stoves were poorly construced things. When the store started carrying Caloric with their gas self-cleaning ovens I always thought what cheap things they were especially with those wire burner grates. The salesmen would stand on them to demonstrate how strong they were (the grates, not the "prima donna" salesmen.)
ps...way back in the olden days, we called those burner grates "spiders"
